OMG! We have kittens!
After 17 years in this house our luck has run out that we only had male stray cats come around. Tonight when I went to the barn to feed Brat, there was mama and 3 kittens. They look to be about 4 weeks old but already will eat the cat food I took out there. I was able to pick one up but it spit and hissed and mama cat came after me! I need to take them away from her before they are too wild to catch. I need to find good homes who will promise to neuter/spay. Of course I think I might keep one. But now I need to figure out where to put them once I get a hold of them! DH IS GOING TO FREAK!
Here are some pictures I took. They are so darn cute

There's not 3 there is 5! Today I saw a grey one and a calico. I'm trying very hard to earn the trust of the mama so maybe I will be able to get close to the kittens. Tonight I got her to eat out of a dish that was only a few inches from me. As long as I don't make a move towards her she stays calm. I'm glad its a long week-end and I have some time to work with them.

I hope you are able to catch them - fast. A lady I work with brought home a 12 week old barn kitty. They have to keep it in the bathroom so they can catch it and force it to let them pet it and feed it. Once it got loose in the house and they couldn't catch it. It didn't come out for days.
A month or so later, it lets her daughter pet it, but not her.

Unfortunately mama has moved the family and I don't know where they are. I've looked everywhere in the barn but I can't find them. She is still coming in for food and water but if I find them within the next couple of days they are destined to be feral. Just what the world needs, 5 more unaltered cats. I'm still working on making friends with mama. I'm at least gong to keep trying with her so that I can get her spayed and stop her baby machine.

Have you thought about trapping? Then at least you could alter them...otherwise 5 kittens will lead to 25 very soon!

I don't know that I would be able to trap them because I have no idea where she moved them to. They can't be in the barn or the dogs would have found them by now. I've looked behind the barn and down in the woods but nothing. I even looked in with Brat (pot-bellied pig) to see if she moved them in with him but no luck. We are having thunderstorms and heavy rain today so I am hoping that she might bring them back to the barn for cover. I'll be looking for them tonight but don't hold out much hope.
