Unhappy 2 Staffies killed my Mum & Bro's Lab LONG

Well yesterday started out really nice, DH, skin kids Ruby and I travelled down to have a family picnic for mothers day with my mum and Bro's in laws. The picnic was great fun had by all but when I got back home and phones Mum to let her know we were back safely (we live 1 1/2 away) she told me she had bad news - Rani (black Lab) had died. She told me the two staffies that lived next door had broken through the fence (they were horrible dogs and for all the months they had lived there had charged at the fence and snarled and growled at poor old Rani who in the end was petrified of other dogs). Mum said when she got home she went straight outside to greet Rani (as they always do) and noticed they were in the yard (and drinking all of Ranis water - mum is a little obsessive with ensuring Rani has enought water and she has quite a few water dishes throughout the yard, they drank all of it like they hadn't seen water in days), so she backed inside (we were all frightened of these two) and went to tell the owners they were in her yard but they weren't home. When Mum got back the dogs were back in own yard, she went and found where they got in and blocked it she then notice Rani was down the side of the house laying down (Rani never goes down there) she approached her and called her name but she didn't move, poor baby was dead, she noticed blood and wounds on her neck as she went back in to get help she noticed blood all over the back yard.
They called the Police and rangers and eventually they came to get the dogs and take photos, when they were taking the photos they found the fence down the side where she was found had fresh scratch marks and blood on it, she had tried deperately to get out and get away from them. The thought of her and the fear and desperation she must of felt trying to get away from those two breaks my heart, she had no chance both of them against her like that. When the owners came home they threatended to kill Mum for having their dogs removed! Apparently they will be charged with the attack but also with neglect - ranger said the dogs were starving and from the state of the yard they were providing insufficient care to the dogs - lack of water, poop everywhere etc.
I've been close to loosing it all day and just needed to share - it seems easier like this rather than talking about it face to face with someone (I know I'd defin. break down).
I just feel so made because I know these d@*k heads will just go and get another dog! And poor old Rani was a harmless overweight clown who always made us laugh, she was so gentle with my kids (whom I haven't told yet and I'm not sure how to at the moment).
R.I.P. beautiful girl

Oh no, what a horrible thing to have happened. I'm always wary of Staffies, not because of the breed but because of their typical owners (around here anyway). You're right, those b*stards will just go out and get other dogs and I feel sorry for those dogs already too.

Run free Rani.

Hope your mum copes okay.

OH how sad. That is just a heartbreaking story ****tears****. Sending all of you hugs and will keep you in my prayers during this difficult time.
I would make sure that the police and the rangers know that the owners of these two dogs threatened your mother's life as well.
So sorry this happened.

Update

Thank you all.
I know what you mean Kilby's Mum I am always cautious too, only because of the typical owners of the breed though.
We have talked Mum into geting an AVO (restraining order) as I can only see it getting uglier. I have told her to come and stay with us if the neighbours are getting too much for her.
I spoke to Mum last night and apparently the dogs are being released TODAY. The owners claim they will be kept in a kennel (as until the court has officially ruled them as dangerous dogs they must be treated as such and need to be kept in a pen meeting special requirements and when not in it be muzzled at ALL times) I said to mum it sounded like BS what kennel would take on two dogs that just killed another dog? They would be putting all the other dogs under their care in harms way and who would take their dog to a kennel that had WARNING DANGEROUS DOG ON PROPERTY signs everywhere(which is also required) it would be bad for business! Also kennels require that dogs have up to date C5 vaccination (you only usually get C3 unless you request C5 over here) and as the dogs were unregistered, unmicrochipped and not provided with basic food and water they probably aren't vaccinated either, let alone a C5 vaccination.
The pet funeral people came and picked Rani up yesterday and when the lady got back to their office one of them contacted Mum and suggested she get an autopsy done Mum agreed to this he also said to her that the lady that came to pick Rani up is usually a "tough cookie" (they have to be dealing with death all the time) but apparently she was a mess and had never been affected like that before. The vet sounds good when he heard the other owners were saying stuff like how do you know it was my dogs (the only hole in the fence was the one dividing the properties, blood and injuries weren't enough for them) he told Mum that there was a case where they took DNA evidence from a dog attack victim to prove the attack so he is taking evidence from Rani and searching out the people that did the case he was talking of. Mum said she doesn't care what it costs, she just feels the need to get justice for Rani.
Oh the ranger also tried to show the owners the photos and they said they didn't want to see them (this angered me that they were trying to pretend these dogs did nothing) but she pulled them out and forced them to look at all of them. They are also whinging that their white dog has bite marks on it's neck: OMFG I told mum it's one of two things 1. Basic instinct is flight or fight poor old Rani prob tried to defend herself-who wouldn't or 2. They were in such a frenzy the two stupid staffies have gotten each other (I have seen it happen before on TV program).
Any way looks like it will be a while before this whole thing is over with and I thank you all so much for your kind words and thoughts. I must phone mum know and make sure she goes through with the AVO.

Oh my goodness, what a horrible thing to happen!! My deepest sympathy to you, your Mum and brother, I am so sad for all of you. Poor Sweet Rani (((tears))) to endure such a terrible attack. I keep you all in my prayers, and hope that you will all be safe, and get the justice you so deserve for what your innocent girl suffered. Rest in peace, Sweet Rani.
