Daizy needs a new friend.

This morning we lost our beloved Boomer due to other peoples ignorance. It is a drastic blow to our family, but I have to think ahead to my family and Daizys well-being. Boomer kept Daizy occupied in the back yard every day while I work and I don't know how she's going to react to being alone. I don't really think we have the room for another boxer because there's no guarantee that we will get another calm one. All that said, does anyone have any advice for a second dog that would work well with a boxer? I need something medium sized that is great with kids. I will be checking out the local shelters, but I need to be informed before I go. Any advice is much needed and appreciated. Thanks in advance!

First off, I'm sorry to hear about Boomer. Also, just a word of advice, you might want to let things settle before just adding in a new dog. Give your current dog time to grieve too. I've seen situations that the current dog will not accept the new dog because they weren't give the time to adjust to a new situation. If/when you do add a new dog, just a suggestion, I found a stray pitbull (mix possibly?) and he is the most awesome dog. In the house, he's very calm and loving, very gentle.....but in the yard, he plays like crazy with the other dogs. He's been the perfect balance of calmness and energy.

After having the day to think about it, we have decided to wait on a new dog. I didn't realize how strong Daizys grief would be. We will start watching in the next couple of months for an adult rescue, I don't think I could handle another puppy!!
