Cat behavior
One of my kitties, Butternuts, is now 6 months old. He has some strange behavior! He will go into one of the kid's rooms and grab a dirty sock. He will then carry it down the stairs, through the rest of the house, jump up onto the counter and put it in his food bowl! My son said he is probably hiding the food from the other kitty because she's too fat!
Butternuts will also sit and stare at the wall for long periods of time. Then all of a sudden, he will jump as high as he can at the wall.
Why does he do these weird thing?! He is definately entertaining!

Every cat I've had will stare at walls & the ceiling. I think they hear things in the walls that we don't. Ugh - little mice feet skittering along. They may even hear air circulating through the heat ducts, house settling, their hearing is extremely acute and they are attuned to sounds that might indicate prey (whether they will ever even attempt to catch something, they still have the instinct). As to why they will jump and dart from one place to another, there may be a reason - or as my DH says they're just nuts. Cats will latch onto items sometimes. Some cats will adopt a toy or article of clothing and act like it's their baby, carrying it around, putting it where they want it. Sometimes I think it's just something of yours and they like it. Contrary to popular notions, many cats are very social. Uneutered female cats will often live together in barns etc and get along. Most cats if kept as pets and neutered (whether male or female) will be very social with each other, other animals in the house and their people as well. Yours just might like to have something with your scent on it and the logical place that is his is his dish, so he might want to horde it all together. I think his name is just adorable.

All of our cats (now at the bridge) have always just sat and looked at the wall and ceiling. We just figured they were crazy . They would do a burn through the house that could get them into the olympics! I also like the name. So cute.

The sock thing is getting worse!! He not only collects dirty socks from my son's room, he now will grab any sock he finds and put it in his food bowl. I always put my clothes for the day on the bed then go into shower. I noticed that my socks were gone. I thought maybe I forget to get a pair and got another out. Before I left for work, I checked the level of food in the cat bowl. There were my clean socks!
I got home from work yesterday and he had 3 dirty socks and 2 pairs of clean socks piled in and around his food bowl. He doesn't completely cover the food and will still sit and eat with socks piled all around him!

Whenever Mr. Kitty does something weird - SuzyQ gives me that "cats are nuts" look, that is not a very clinical diagnosis, but she just might be right.

Oh my goodness I can't help but laugh picturing your kitty collecting all the socks in the house and bringing them to his bowl. My brother's cat who lived to be 25 had a habit of taking socks in her mouth and going through the house and then she would drop them and cry. It started when she was much older than your kitty. But it was like a comfort thing for her. She also loved it when he played the accordian. She would come running from wherever she was but if he played the mouth organ she would cry a real loud cry. She didn't like the sound and she let him know. Your cat is doing this for some reason that you may never find out. Cats are much smarter than they are given credit for. Hope you can find out what's going on with him. Good Luck!!
