What should I do?

On my way to work this morning, I slowed down for a dog and the dog started following me. I live out in the middle of nowhere and drive the same route every day and I have never seen this dog. It is only 16 outside. I stop to check for tags and she is extremely friendly and skinny. She looks like a pit mix and has on a collar and one of those really short leashes that is just a loop. The leash is not broken, there are no tags. I called my dad to see if he would take her...he said no. I called animal control, they don't come on til 11am. I called the shelter to see if I could drop her off but can't til 5:30 tonight.

I think someone dumped her. I am thinking about going back and picking her up if she is still there and bringing her back to work with me. I am worried about introducing her to Bayleigh. I have heard so many horror stories about 2 females. Plus DH would kill me.

If you can go back and pick her up and bring her to work until someone else can take her... I would do that. Maybe you can call some of your neighbors and see if anyone knows anything about her. It is just so sad to think someone might have dumped her Let us know what happens. HUGS (to you and her)

I would do the same. Pick her up, and then go from there. If I see a stranded/lost animal while I am driving, I can not help but stop and pick it up. I don't even think about what I'm going to do with it until it is in my back seat starring at me ! Good luck, and let us know what happens!

go back and see if its still there. ive been in your position twice and both times ive picked up the dog and taken it to animal control-i dont bring them home because i dont know what they have and i dont want it passed to chloe and maxi at the time.. if you cant get animal control call the police and explain the situation at times animal control will come when the police call them faster, i know it works here. good luck or if worse comes to worse you can call a vet and ask what to do. good luck and let us know what happens.

Ok, went back and she was still running. She is now at the office with me. I am going to call animal control at 11 and see if they will meet me and take her.

I bought Pedigree (crap I know but all that was available in my small town) and she turned up her nose. She did drink 2 bowls of water and is now investigating my office.

Awww....poor baby I'm sure she's enjoying being warm!!!! Your an angel for picking her up.....as we know there's not too many people like that. I keep a collar and leash in my car for instances like this, haven't come across any strays yet but will stop anytime I see a little baby by themselves.

Keep us updated

I have had 2 people walk into my office and both were petrified of her. Damn the pit breed reputation! She is so sweet. I am desperately trying to find a home for her. I know she will be put down if I take her to the pound. If I have to, I will keep her overnight in my garage. I am just so afraid of introducing her to Bayleigh!

Its unfortunate that the pitty dogs have such a bad wrap when it comes to their temperment... its on how they are raised i believe...and not all our bad. In my city Pit bulls are illegal and if you own one they have to be muzzled and i think you pay an extra fee to keep them... soo sad.

good on you for being able to first pick her up and bring her to your office.. what you are doing is great.. Hopefully someone can help or calls looking for her. What you are doing is very noble!

You're an angel for caring enough to pick her up. Personally I've had good luck in finding the owners when I've been in this situation. We kept a Lab and a St. Bernard in our garage for 2 days until we found the family that was looking for them! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed everything works out well for her.
