Unhappy Onyx is throwing up

Ok, I need some opinions. Onyx (cat) has apparently been throwing up and I didn't even know it. I feel like a bad mom. Well I rarely go in my basement except to do laundry and come right back up. Well during the night Friday night, Onyx had thrown up on my counter in the kitchen. It's basically just partially digested food. I didn't think much of it, cleaned it up and went on my way. Then Saturday, I went down the basement for something and I found 3-4 small piles of throw up from her. They are not fresh so I honestly don't know if they've been there for about a month or more. So I cleaned it all up and then Sunday morning I went downstairs to check to see if she'd thrown up any more and I found a new pile of throw up. This pile was mostly partially undigested food but I did see a small hairball in this one (this was the 1st hairball I've seen in all the throw up). So I clean it up and decide I'm going to call the vet this morning to get her in but I go check this morning, and she has not thrown up at all last night. I don't get it. I think I'm going to call the vet and see what they think I should do just to be safe, but I HATE taking Onyx to the vet because she has brain damage (literally, not in a mean way) so ANYTHING out of the ordinary just sets her off. She turns in to the tazmanian devil when I take her to the vet and she's not the same for a couple days once we get home. What would you do? My BF says we should wait a few days/weeks and see if it continues before we take her in, but I'm worried something could be wrong......advice please?

It sounds like she has a blockage, probably from a hairball. Have you given her hairball ointment? It helps the hairball slide on through. They also have hairball treats you can give them to help prevent hairballs. We have a long haired 13 yr old cat so I am used to it. I also buy hairball preventitive food, which is supposed to help. Anyway, it sounds like a hairball problem to me, but I'm not a vet. Good luck!

My confusion comes from that she only throws up during the night......never during the day.....and she does eat during the day. Seems like if she had somewhat of a blockage, she would throw up everytime she eats, not just at night right?

Is there a specific kind of hairball remedy you would recommend? I'm willing to try anything. I think I'm going to the store after work today to see what I can find. I think I'll try that before dragging her to the vet.
