Geez, Border Collies!!!!

I posted a while back about my new Border pup, Cowboy!

I LOVE him to DEATH!!! But he is a little devil ! We had been working on a few training commands, but his attention span seemed so short, I gave up for about a month, figuring I'd let the major puppy stage run its course. (they are NOT at all like Boxers!!! Mine were so EASY to train.... the Border is NOT)

Come to find out, the little devil DOES know SIT, and didn't bother to let me know he knew it! I just found this out last night, and confirmed it today. Last night I had some 'jerky treats' and he was desperately wanting one.... jumping, barking... I told him "Cowboy, SIT".... Well, the little guy plopped his butt right onto the floor! I was shocked!! I had to do it a second time just to see, same result. That little devil has been fooling me all along!

Today I got home, he was jumping on me, I told him "Cowboy, SIT" (without any treats), and yep, he sat!

He's been lying to me the WHOLE TIME!!!!!!

Training session is about to kick into full gear, little Cowboy,,,, get ready!!!

Just thought I'd share! Borders ARE very smart, and OH SO funny!!! Just like Boxers, but not nearly like them at all... I'm shocked at the difference! I still think Boxers are smarter! OH, and Borders do "Boxer burns" too around the yard I've discovered!!!!!

Pics are coming, I've had some pc issues, but they are coming, I promise!

I just realized that we haven't seen pics of Cowboy - you should know better!!!
What a little stinker, lying to you this whole time - now what else is he hiding??? BC's are smart, they just don't want you finding out! My horse trainer had two and if they were not herding the cows or the sheep, they were herding you.
Now go post us some pics!

I had a Border Collie growing up, they are extremely smart! Honestly I thought he was easier to train than my Boxer pup now-she is a little devil!!!

Re: Geez, Border Collies!!!!

LOL!!! too funny!

My Cowboy is 4 1/2 months old now, and he knows sit, and we're working on "lay down". He knows a form of stay and come (when he wants to)... but that's about it.

I would almost promise that my Boxers knew sit, lay down, no bite, down (don't jump), stay, and come at his age (but that was 13 years ago!!!). BUT, I did have a WHOOLE LOT more time with them at that time. I was in college for half the day, so I spent the rest of the time with them, working with them. Now, I'm "all grown up" with a real job and just don't have that much time to spend on training. I do all I can, so I guess I have to take that into consideration too.

Plus, my Boxers did not need any treats for training... I think Cowboy does. He needs something to keep his attention and his willingness. Or maybe I'm losing my touch!!!

Cowboy sure is FUN though! I just love him to pieces!!
