Other than size?
The bullmastiff is substantially smaller, being developed from a cross between the mastiff and bulldog (English) I believe.

Is it true that a Mastiff is the biggest dog you can get?

Are you asking if they are the tallest and heaviest..or the tallest..or the heaviest?
I believe the Irish Wolf Hound is the tallest. I am not too sure about the heaviest.

Well, how are you defining "big"? I'd certainly say it's the biggest in terms of both height and weight (combined). And I'd guess it costs the most to run too LOL
It isn't the tallest though. That title probably goes to the Irish wolfhound and the great Dane (each of which should be a minimum of 32 in - versus 30 in for the mastiff).

I did mean in both ways.
It's just that I was dropping off some supplies to the local PDSA the other day, & there was this dinosaur in there. The man said it was a Mastiff.
BF said it was big, but not as big as a Great Dane, & he thought that a true Mastiff was bigger than a Dane.
I wasn't sure about the difference between Mastiff breeds, & that's basically where my question came from.
I have my answer now though - Thanks guys.
That Wolfhound must be pretty big - Are they the ones that are really tall & slim, & have wirey hair, & are normally grey in colour??

heres a link to the Irish Wolfhound Club of America. They have a few pictures of the IWH. Sounds like you are describing an Irish WolfHound. (I don't think they are slim dogs by any means
Males average 34-36 inches and 140-180 pounds and females 32-34 inches and 115-140 pounds

I went to look around a kennels a little while ago (just checking them out for when I need one ) and they bred Irish Wolfhounds. They were like horses
