Need opinion naming after boyfriend
Okay, My boyfriend and I are getting a boxer together. So far we have not found a puppy, but we picked the name. My boyfriend( Michael) never had children, so we had decided to name the puppy after him. Some of my friends all hate the name- I agreed with him and thought it was cute after having a martini.... Now I am not sure- I need some opinions on the name "Mieke" pronounced "Mike-key"
We already have a Maggie 15 months

I guess the only thing that comes to mind as a negative would be, if things didn't work out would you mind having a dog named after an ex? If that doesn't bother you and you like the name, then I say go for it!

I think Mieke is cute!! If you're not sure, you could name him Mieke II or Michael II and since he would be the second, you could call him Deuce-just an idea. I'm partial to Michael, because it's my hubby's name!! Good luck and let us know what you decide!

thanks we still have time, no baby on the way as of yet. I have Maggie because of an x not working out, and it wasnt the name I wanted- I wanted to name her Savannah- so I guess if you love your pup, it doesn't matter what their name is, and besides if things don't work out, which I think they will, Meike will be all the love and good memories.

I don't know if I'd give a bf a namesake puppy, but I like the way you've changed the spelling.
But Mikes can't be bad guys, can they? I've just met one that I think I really like!!

Oh, I don't think you'll love your dog any less if things don't work out! I just didn't know how you'd feel when you really sat down a thought about his name and where it came from or having to explain to people where his name came from if your bf was no longer in the picture. I say it's up to you! And if you really like the name Meike, then I'd say go for it!
Is there anything else that you could pull from your bf to incorporate into a name. i.e. My Dh is in the military, we named Deuce after his unit. Just another idea!

I don't think it's that bad of an idea...I mean how often do we actually call our babies by there names?? Dexter answers to all sorts of things but his main one that really makes his ears perk up is Baby Boy! He'll come a runnin! I think if we actually use Dexter he thinks he's is trouble!

I can honestly say that your dog's name won't necessarily haunt you after a breakup. I got Fuego with my ex (we split in April) and the name is a marriage between our two passions (he is a firefighter and I am a Spanish language buff...soon to be teacher!). Anyway, now that I have Fuego it is kind of sad about his name, but at the same time it really personifies who he is so I can't imagine calling him anything else. Break ups happen, but it definitely doesn't change the way you feel about your pets. While the names may make you feel melancholy sometimes, in the end it is sort of a mutually exclusive situation! Hope that helps!

Mieke is an adorable name! I'd just be concerned about the simular "M" sounding name...could get confusing for the pups?! ~Kristin

puppy confused ?
Thanks Kristen- this may be my way out of naming the puppy after my boyfriend. Could the puppy really get confused if they both have M names????
