Why did you name him/her that??

I know we have had this topic before, but we have sooooo many new members, I thought this might be fun again...

What's the story behind your Boxer's name? Cyrus is actually Bucyrus. He is named after a little town in KS, south of where we used to live in Olathe. We always drove by the sign, and my DH would always comment on how "Bucyrus is an awesome name for a dog!!" So when we brought our baby boy home, there was no question what his name would be! He seems to like it, and it really fits him well too!!

I am sure there are better stories than mine, so let's hear 'em Boxer lovers!!!

Here's my boring story:
Since the breed has German origins, we wanted to have German names for them. I got to pick Abbi, just because I thought it was cute. And my fiance picked Hayden because I guess it means something like "hellion" in German. Whatever. If it really does mean that, it's so fitting for the little monster!

Annie was named after the movie. I had just seen it the night before we got her. I had the song "We've got Annie!" stuck in my head, and when we were struggling to come up with a name for her, I just blurted it out.

AJ is the named after his sire and dam (Alley and Jam).

Lucy got her name because her litter was themed after Peanuts comic strip characters.

I started looking for a new dog because my Chi gives his love sparingly. I wanted a dog that would love me when I NEEDED to be loved. So I set out to find a devoted friend. I didn't want to name her "Daisy" because it is sooo common, but when I found out that "a white Daisy is a symbol of loyal love" I just had to use it. She does need to work on her devotion a little more, but we're happy.

I probably went through thousands of pages of dog/baby names on the internet and made a short list that I came to BW with along with friends and family

Finlay is an Irish name (I'm of Irish blood) meaning Fair Hero
Which is perfect since he is white and I did my best not to name him a tough name, I dont need a 85lb boxer slobbering over some kid and having to explain why his name is Kojo or Killer or Tank LOL (no offense to the Tanks out there)

The other reason he is named that is that their is a WWE wrestler who is Irish named Finlay so of course he is now my favorite wrestler!!

My boy got his name from a very dear friend of mine. When I was a kid I had a best friend who's name was Chance , we grew up together and did everything together. Unfortunatly on 16th birthday he was killed in a car accident and I always told myself if I ever got a male dog I would name him after Chance because he was such a loyal friend who would give his own life to save mine and who is in my heart always. I think he would approve because the name couldn't suit my boy better. He's my protector (with daddy's help of course) and the most loyal and protective dog I have ever owned. Sorry it's long but that's my story

Great stories, everyone!

Piper Ann almost wasn't mine-it came down to either me or one of the staff at the shelter. She has seniority of me because she was paid staff and I was a volunteer, but her boyfriend told her she couldn't have another dog, and so I got to adopt Piper. I felt bad for the staffer, so I asked what she had been planning to name the puppy to add it into consideration for what I would name her. The staffer said she was going to name her "Pandra" after the fawn god of frolic. I thought "Pandra" sounded too much like "Pandora," and I didn't want my new puppy to unleash a bit ol' box of evil onto my life, but Pan plays the pipes so, "Piper Ann" it was.

It is fun to read the meanings behind the boxer names. I named Molly after the "unsinkable" Molly Brown that was aboard the Titanic.

While our kids were growing up, some of their favorite movies were the Indiana Jones movies. Our youngest son, Mike always asked, if we were to ever get another boxer after Rascal , could we name him Indiana? You guessed it! We now have our adventurer, Indy...now where did I put his hat?

Sammy was named by the DH after a samurai sword. (mmm...hmmm.... tough cookie, a.k.a.~ Teddy bear he is)!

Chief was named after Chief Wiggum from the Simpsons!!! His registration name is actually Chief Waggum Wheel! (including our last name!)

Falko's ame comes from the football movie The Replacements, which I think we have seen 1.5 thousand times. The QB in the movie is Shane Falko, and we thought "falko" was different, and he just looked like a falko.
Annabelle, well that was Shane Falkos girlfriends name in the movie.

Kind of long...Sorry!

Well, I had the name Ginger picked out before I even knew my baby existed. My family had to put our dog Max to sleep in December, so my sister and I bought my mom a ChiPom puppy to help with the loss. When we surprised her at work with the puppy one of her co-workers said he looked like a Fred, and it stuck.

I knew from then on that I had to get Fred a Ginger, you know like the iconic couple Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

Two months after getting Fred one of the driver's my mom manages asked if she wanted a 4 month old boxer puppy. Rob had sold his litter and a couple had taken two of the puppies. His wife had done home visits, etc. and thought they would be great parents. After a month the couple returned with the two pups because they "didn't know being pupy parents was going to be so difficult and they have bad gas." Rob explained that he could not refund their money because the puppies had no health issues and because they signed the contract but that he would be more than happy to take them back. Come to find out the couple had not been very nice to the puppies because they showed psychological signs of abuse and neglect.

My mom asked me right away if I'd like one and I said of course, especially after hearing their story. Rob ended up keeping her brother. So, as fate would have it, Fred and I found our Ginger, and she is just as beautiful and vivacious as the actress she is named after!
