We had to go to another state to get our Roxy and on the drive back home we heard the song "Roxanne" by the Police. DH said "oh, that's cute, let's name her Roxanne and call her Roxy."
When I went to get Buster at the breeders, I took a friend of my sons and our family who is in college. I actually went to get a reverse brindle who was kind of shy and timid, then up ran Buster all gusto and wiggle butt. My son and our friend loved Buster and talked me into trying to get him instead. Luckily, the breeder said the people who were going to take him weren't sure yet and since she hadn't got a firm yes, told me I could have him. When we got home, he was obnoxious and into everything. I kept saying "look buster, you and I are going to go round and round". Thus, the name Buster.

I have always loved the Stone Roses song "Sally Cinnamon" (some lyrics below); hence Sally Cinnamon- my lovely boxer (not so little) baby.

Until Sally I was never happy
I needed so much more
Rain clouds oh they used to chase me
Down they would pour
Join my tears
Allay my fears
Sent to me from heaven
Sally cinnamon
You are my world

Diesel

I love everyone's stories of naming their babies... and I love the names who embrace that embrace the German heritage or the heritage of the owner--I've never really like the "dog" names. They are our kids, after all!
We got Diesel when he was 9 months old and named Sugar, which was the worst name for him. We met him at his foster mom's house-when we walked in the door, he was sitting like a statue against the wall, and as soon as his foster mom called him, I knelt down, he barrelled toward me, and knocked me over. We decided to name him Diesel about three minutes later. I like human names for dogs, but he was undeniably a Diesel.
For the first year we had him, he acted like he was high on cocaine. He'd run down the hallway full-speed, jump into the air, curl into a ball and body slam you, then take off before you knew what hit you. He'd literally push you off the couch when he wanted to be where you were, and when you'd make him get down, he'd push against you... He was a hellion! Definitely not a Sugar--not that he was mean, and he definitely had his cute moments, but most of the time he was plowing into us and knocking us off the furniture.
Then he turned three and turned into another dog. Now he's a cuddler who will willingly leave his spot on the couch without a hissy fit. Diesel doesn't really seem to fit anymore, but it's his name... along with Deez (obviously), Papa, Weasil, Wiggle Butt, Crazy Fool (when he's at the dog park or running with the horses), and Belly.
Everyone we meet thinks he's the most well-behaved dog in the world... little do they know about the old Diesel!

Hudson

Sometimes I think you just get lucky with names.

I got Hudson at 10 months old and she came with the name. Living close to the Hudson river here in NY, and being a kayaker who frequents this great river, I didn't have it in me to even consider changing her name. It's actually probably part of what made me fall immediately in love with her.

Fortunately, she is living up to her name and then some. She is an avid swimmer (3 hours or more almost every day this past summer) as well as enjoying canoeing, sailing (she has great sea legs), and some limited kayaking in the lake that we live (nearly) on. I am currently designing and planning to build a kayak engineered for the two of us (with the emphasis being on her) so that we can start kayaking on her namesake. Then, of course, I'll probably get stuck trying to name the boat .........

I picked Thai because i spent several months in thailand during a couple of years travelling and just fell in love with the place (hence the Thai spelling rather than ty), and there's also a thai boxer as in the martial arts which i am interested in, so has 2 meanings really.

Cool My fur baby names

Chewy is actually the short affectionate version of Chew Chew Charlie. He was named for a friend who passed away named Charlie, nicknamed Chew as a kid. For a dog, it was more fitting to spell it
C-H-E-W as opposed to Choo, like the good & plenty engineer. lol
Clover is my girl, Clover's Luck of the Irish (as we are Irish, etc). She often gets "Pee-Wee" (45lbs) and Chewy is usually "Sugar Bear" cause he's a big (90+lbs) snuggly galoot.

When I had my middle child my brother used to say "oh, you should name her Nikita". He loved this name because of the show "la femme Nikita". I'd tell him that sounded like a dog's name! My brother passed away 5.5 yrs ago and I wanted to honour him by naming her Nikita. I know he would have loved it! I've also had a beagle named diesel, rottweiller named Toro.

We went to hawaii the year before and when we got kona she looked like a little coffee bean with her brindled coat. And since they are so famous for their "kidney beaning" we just put a different spin on it!

BridgetD I have to share my Bella with you. Her AKC name is Belle of the Ball from Coe. When I used to babysit in high school the family that I watched had a doberman/shepherd mix named Bella who was just the nicest dog. So when we got our Bella, I searched and searched and didn't want a name that everyone else had. Now, everywhere I turn there are things called Bella! Even businesses!

My son, who was 4 at the time, picked Chief's name. He was obsessed with that movie Fox and the Hound at the time, and I think there was a dog in that movie named Chief.

Red face

My daugher, who was 3 at the time, named Sasha. My Uncle had a Weimeraner named Tasha and I think she ment to say Tasha, but it came out "Sasha", so we went with that. It fits her well.
Angel is our family Christmas/New Year present. My daughter and son wanted to pick something to do with Christmas, so they started to recite Santa's reindeer names and picked Vixen. My husband and I agreed that it sounded a little evil, so we passed on it. As we were finishing decorating the Christmas Tree, (the tree topper is our family favorite, given to me as a gift for daughters first Christmas) we all get to place "The Angel" on top of the tree. We all looked at each other and decided unanamously that "Angel" would be a great name for the new arrival.

My Labs name is Monroe. Its the name of my Fathers best friend, and my wife liked the name and chose it.

Our Boxer is named Patrick after the cartoon character on Spongebob (my 2 1/2 year old sons favorite show). I chose that name because I thought the character on the show had alot of the same characteristics of a boxer. Silly most of the time, and even when they try to act tough you cant help but laugh a little....LOL
