I'm Polish and occasionally look to that language for names of pets. Minka is a feminine polish name meaning "strong or resolute" and contains the words "mink" (appropriate for how soft she is) and "ink" (appropriate especially for her dark eyes, but also her mask and brindling).

Quint is named after Captain Quint, from the movie "Jaws"
My fiance is a huge Jaws/ shark buff and Quint was his birthday gift last year, I asked him "What are you going to name him?" and right away, he said "Captain Quint".
We rarely call him that, though. Actually, our vet is the only one who calls him Captain at all.
We call him Quint, Quint-A-Lint, The Boy, The Baby, Mama's Bee Bee, and Stinky from time to time : )
I wanted to name him something like Rocky, or Drago or something boxing related - hunny says I can name the next one : )

Harley

About 4 years ago, I lived by some people who had a boxer puppy. I had my Muffin (her real name was cinnamon, because she had a sister named ginger and they were the spice girls), so I was already a boxer lover. I went to pet him when I first saw him and asked what his name was. It was Harley.

I immediately fell in love with the name, and vowed that when I got my first dog that was my own, his name would be Harley. Plus, I love motorcycles. Harley has a Harley-Davidson leash and collar

When I get a girl in a few years, I think I might name her Delilah or Rita

Talking

We found our little girl in an ad while searching everywhere for the right family dog. We knew we wanted to help give a dog the chance at having a forever home and was really looking for one that was in need. The woman listed her as a stray that she couldnt find the owner and would take this dog to the pound (a high kill shelter the next day if no one wanted her) well we couldnt let that happen so off we went to meet her. She was the sweetest boxer and we fell in LOVE right there. We said how it seemed like she was a gift from heaven so we named her Kulani (KOO-LA-NEE) Hawaiian for Like Heaven. We call her Kula for short.

My first boxer Chelsea got her name because she was the colour of a Chelsey bun. My second boxer Frazier was named after the boxer Joe Frazier. My third boxer Jack is named for the boxer Jack Dempsey. My fourth boxer Avery was 2 when we got her and she was already named. However she also responds to Doodle, Duck or Dumpling, or a combination of all 4 names! My Boston Terror is Indy after Indiana Jones. We went camping with him as soon as we picked him up and he has been on one adventure after another since then.

Dubby is actually named Chester. But at the time DS was 1 1/2 and couldn't say Chester. Or Doggy. Or puppy. He said Dubby. After a month the dog answered to Dubby and the rest is history.

Alyss (Alice) got her name because I was doing intake at the shelter and I have a list I go by for naming. Alice was the next name on the list, but I had read Frank Beddor's The Looking Glass Wars book recently and he spelled the name Alyss, so I stole the spelling and kept the name from the list.

Smile I heart Basil

My husband and I always planned on getting a Boxer named Basil and a Golden Retriever named Sage. I thought of the name Basil because I love the herb and think it's a cool name. We are still waiting for Sage. Our Basil is sooo sweet!!

Our first boxer was Bubby after the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback at the time. We lived with my parents so Bubby was never alone he came home to be with my parents lab. When we moved out Bubby was miserable and lonely so we kept telling him we were going to find his "Babs". I thought the names sounded cute together. We got our Babs a few months after we moved out. Actually the were brother and sister (didn't know about back yard breeders back then). Indy name is "Kennel Name" Independence Day because we picked him up on the 4th of July. Also we though Independence was a fitting name for a bull headed Boxer.

Bianca got her name because I am of Italian decent and I wanted to keep the tradition alive. Plus, when I think of the name Bianca, I think of some spoiled little girl yelling at her mommy in the grocery store...if the shoe fits!

Names

I have always been a dog lover, for a variety of reasons I was never able to get a dog, and I vowed once I was in a stable relationship (meaning wife material) I would start looking for a Boxer. We found a littler of 12 pups right in town where we lived, come to find out the owners went to school with my wife. We went ASAP, to get pick fo the litter, which we did, after 5 or 6 visits, I wanted to take home about...all of them, we settled on a Brindle male. I was trying to think of names before we got the dog, and Bosco for whatever reason entered my head, and it STUCK like mud!

The little one was named Guinness after you guessed it, the BEER. He answers to Guinness, Guinney Pig, Piggy, and even Piglet!

Our magical girl

Our little girl has such a cute black mask on her face. Since she's a girly-girl, we couldn't name her Bandit or Zorro or anything like that.

We decided on Meekah. Mee-kah is the Osage Indian word for raccoon, but literally translated means "magic one with painted face".
