Found Boxer in Western North Carolina

Hi There!

A young male fawn Boxer showed up on our place a few days ago. He's fawn colored, white chest, cropped with natural ears, prob less than one year old and not fixed. He's a very sweet boy and desperate for attention.

My Pyr mix isn't to fond of him (she's there to guard the goats) and I have to keep him separated and kenneled to avoid havoc. I already contacted the local Boxer rescue, but apparently all there foster homes are full.

Thanks - any help is appreciated!

He seems well taken care of & doesnt look like he has been out long. Did you contact your local animal control/shelter to see if anyone is looking for him? What about checking for a microchip?

Very cool of you to post here.

I wish I could help find the owner with you, I know I would be very sad if my boy got lost.

Did you discuss holding him for the boxer rescue until another foster opens up or until he is placed? The rescue that I work with will put dogs up for adoption and list them on their website & on websites like petfinder even if we are full. Maybe the rescue in your area will do the same as long as you’re willing to foster.

Definitely check for microchip, report to local police and ALL the shelters in your area. The first time I lost my rescue I didn't know really who to call, so I called the shelter I rescued him from. The owner may be like me. Any shelter or even your vet would check for a chip for free.

He does look very well taken care of. All of the suggestions above are great ideas. I would also contact all of the local pet stores and vets and see if anyone has called about a lost dog.

We did all that - he's not chipped, did not wear a collar, lacks seriously on training (he doesn't even know how to walk on a leash), we contacted our and the neighboring county shelter, there are no fliers...

It's not the first dog that got dumped in our area....

Yeah dog dumping is a common problem. People are ridiculous & cruel. Hopefully you can find him a good home. I would try to contact the boxer rescue again and see if you can negotiate something. Poor guy probably just needs some direction and he’ll be a good dog.

He's probably from one of those owners who just wanted a tough looking dog without any work into training. Then when he got to big to handle, dump him off far from home. Then stopped to get another on his way back home to start the process all over again.

This is why so many shelters are filled to the gill with pitbulls and rottie's. Too many beautiful dogs with no guidance and a bad rap. I hope this doesn't happen to our boxers next.

Duming dogs is a very common occurence in our area.

I contacted the local Boxer rescue the first day we had him, unfortunately all foster homes are full at this time.

The good news are, that as of today, the dog has a new home: a vet tech that starts vet school this summer. I have a very good feeling about the couple and he will be in good and loving hands - and has a playmate.

She knows, that there is a slim change that a owner will come forward.

That's the 2nd dumped/stray dog we took in and found a good home for, and I am sure it won't be the last (unfortunately).

My "pack" is all settled and happy again.
