Greetings from the Bluegrass State
i thought i'd posted an introduction when i first joined, but must not have done so in my attempt to take in much of the site--for that, i apologize.
hello to all from kentucky (USA). i'm mom to a 4 month old boxer puppy, "oscar." he's fawn with a black mask, white toes and chest, and slight white stripe on his muzzle. his tail is docked, his ears will be left natural, and i do plan to neuter him at six months of age.
oscar is my first boxer. i've long admired the breed and am delighted to have one as a member of our household. this puppy has been a pleasure since day one. i'm amazed at his intelligence and temperament. i have a 5 year old son, and one of my primary considerations in choosing a breed was its suitability to children. needless to say, i'm convinced i made a great choice. i'm sure time will only strengthen my conviction.
we started puppy classes with a private trainer 4 weeks ago (1 hr/week with the trainer, then work at home daily). although oscar's definitely still a puppy with a puppy's curiosity and independence, both i and our trainer have been very impressed by oscar's aptitude.
oscar has fit in from day one. our household has 2 cats, and he gets along splendidly with both. our older cat mostly ignores him, and oscar respects that, but our younger cat and oscar play like 2 puppies. they are great pals. my two biggest concerns with bringing a dog into the home were that 1) it would get along well with my son and 2) that it would get along well with our cats. oscar has outshone my expectations on both counts. suffice it to say i'm kooky about this little guy.
