ne rescue sort of

Hi My husband and i just rescues a 1.75 yr old female boxer. we love her!!! Our first dog bandit an 8 year old Rottweiler rescue wasn't too thrilled with Roxy at first but they are slowly growing on each other. We knew we wanted another dog , but with a 6 year old and 3 year old a puppy is too much work. Plus we have adopted all of our animals so when we saw a 2 year old female for sale for $200.00 we decided to take a look. We figured all would not be perfect. after all who sells a great companion like roxy? we went to see Roxy because we knew we wanted a Boxer. thats all we knew. when we got there the woman told us she used to breed boxers but her husband left and now she places unwanted boxers in homes. we adopted bandit for 150.00 7 years ago and he was fixed, to my surpris e roxy was not fixed and required a payment of $200.00 . we almost walked away when we noticed the youing child of the seller pounding her int he heaad and screaming at the top of her lungs. my six year old asked if roxy was being hurt and we said yes. we could not leave without her. i am sur e thus cholud could not hurt her but her willingness to allow this child to repeatedly hit her and scream in her ear made us positive that she was wonderful with children and deserved our home. my 3 year old has fallen in love with her . i have never been a dog lover but roxy has changed me. she is amazingly beautiful, smart and loyal. she took over my daughters like they are her own yet does not have a mean bone in her cute little underweight body. yes she is very thin. her owners apparently gave her away at 18 months because she was not successful at breeding and they had three other dogs. they wanted to keep[ the dogs that would produce puppies. anyway she has been with us for two months and has put on 2 pounds. she is now 44 lbs. they say she didn't like to eat but she eats great for us. she is not fixed abd has a swollen backside. the doctor said she was going into or coming out of heat. nothihg has changed since we adopted her. she has two swollen tits and recently has had a slimy discharge from her , well , reproductve area, I am new at this please forgive me . i don't know if she is finally in heat or just in a false pregnancy. there is no blood. i love her to death and plan on having her fixed. can i do this if she is in heat? bandit is fixed and we do not plsn on breeding roxy although the woman gave me her papers without her being fixed which is strange to me. my vet said she is in good health and her weight is o.k. he recomended finding out if she was in the begining or end of heat before the procrdure. i am so happy i found this message board i have so many questions about my new little girl. thank you for helping me with any questions i might have. meaghan

Welcome Meaghan! I am glad to hear you've found a great addition to your family. I am sure Roxy is thrilled to find a forever family that will love her and give her the wonderful home she deserves. It sounds like Roxy has been through a lot in her short life and will repay you a million times over for making her a member of your family.

I'm not an expert on health issues, I wish I could answer your questions, but Boxerworld is a fabulous site with a wealth of information. You can check the Health forums or run a search to find specific topics.

I am owned by Mason, an almost five year old fawn male. I wish we could adopt another, so does Mason, but right now we aren't in a position to.

You are going to love this site - there is so much great information here! I can't wait to hear more stories about your babies!

hi and welcome. so glad you adopted roxy you saved her from a miserable situation and you should be commended. i also have a rottie along with my boxer. you couldnt ask for a better dog for kids then the boxer. they are just great with them. last week a neighbor brought over her 8 month old grandson and chloe was just kissing him all over and he was laughing so hard she got to the toes and he was beyond himself, chloe loved every minute with him. maxi though gave a kiss her and there then walked away. good luck with roxy.

chloe 5 red fawn
maxi 10 rottie
