Losing Weight on Homecooked?
I went completely homecooked about 6 weeks ago with my two guys. My boy, Fraze, needed to lose a little weight but my girl was just right. They have both dropped weight since the switch, not alarmingly, but enough that I am wondering what I could add to hers to put weight back on. Frazier I just need to maintain. I vary the diet and have started to add fattier meats for her. They were on grainless kibble before so I go light on the grains and Frazier has grain allergies so I do not feed them to him. But I do give rice, oats, oatmeal, etc, to Nysa. I also give both of them alternately things like oily fish, cottage cheese, eggs, etc. Any thoughts/suggestions woud be most appreciated

What about snacks between meals? You could make your own treats or give them raw meaty bones? The only other thing I can think of (since you can't add whole grain pasta due to allergies) is maybe feed a little bit more, or can you add some olive oil to your cooking? I don't know if any of this helps, but I tried.

I would try increasing her food intake a little.

My vet recommended adding corn oil to Tink's homecooked diet, she was small but is slowly adding weight so it seems to have worked!

If a dog has allergies to grain, wouldn't corn oil cause allergies also? I honestly don't know, but I would think so.

Let me know if she has any reaction to the corn oil, I'm really curious. Does she have a corn allergy?

Actually it is my boy with ALL the allergies My girl can eat anything but no matter how much I feed her she is just so thin-clean bill of health so I guess she just needs more.

Austin has lost some weight since I started cooking for him, too. But that's ok, he was a little too "fluffy" anyway!
