Exclamation Cooking without a pressure cooker

I have decided that I want to start homecooking for my pup. I noticed that a lot of people are talking about using a pressure cooker. Unfortunately, I dont dont own one though!

I am interested to see how you should cook the meats without a pressure cooker? What else do you use? Can you just boil the meat? Cook the meat in on the stove, etc?? Will those methods suck all the nutrients out? Does anyone know?

Also, what about adding chicken broth (low sodium) to make it more soupy? Does anyone know anything about that?

Thanks!

You could boil your meat but would have to remove all the bones before feeding your dog.

Before I used a pressure cooker, I would cut up a whole chicken, add carrots and celery and enough water to cover. Then boil til chicken is tender and remove bones. I didn't use any type of store bought broth, just used the liquid the meat was cooked in.

Use a slow cooker. If you have a crock pot or slow cooker, cook the chicken for 24 hours or until the bones mash up.

First attempt at Crockpot chicken

I did this yesterday.....24 hours in the crockpot. Tonight Indy and Bud's cousin Zeus is over to watch the Packer/Cowboy game (and Zeus's parents) so tonight the three boys are going to enjoy the chicken! The bones were very soft. I put the whole crockpot into the fridge. Hope the bones don't harden back up in there.

Did you mash up the bones? If you did they small pieces won't harden back up, they just crunch. Probably the same thing with the big ones although I don't leave mine whole, I mash.

Thanks for the replies I have received so far. I am not a big cook for myself, let alone my pup. My friends think I am crazy for cooking my dog, but I know he will appreaciate it!
