Question about veggies and grain

I just made my first homecooked HUGE pot of stew for my dogs last night. I cooked my chicken for 2 hours at 15lbs of pressure, as suggested and the bones mashed up. I have a couple of questions for next time. Can you put in the veggies with the chicken when you cook for two hours or will it totally distroy all nutrients? I didn't know, because if you use a pressure cooked I thought the nutrients were supposed to stay in, part of the plus side of pressure cookers. Also, if dogs are allergic to rice and wheat, are they generally allergic to oats also? I thought about adding a little oats, but didn't want to chance it this time. I think I'm really going to like home cooking. DH walked in last night and thought it was for us until he looked in the pot!

I pressure cook all my veggies along with the chicken.

I have tried oats. My 2 ate it but not with their usual gusto. It had a pasty consistency. You don't have to add any grains!

Hmmm....maybe that's why it was so much work for me, I always cooked the veggies seperate. Never thought about adding it in with the meat

It's funny that you say your DH thought the food was for him. My brother came over for dinner, opened the fridge and was eating of out the dogs homecook. It was still warm so he thought it was our leftovers. It had all the organ meat: liver, hearts and gizzards with chicken and raw egg

I'm not too sure on the allergic reaction to oats...I would assume no, but I'm no expert. So don't take my advice Hopefully somone else can help you

So how did your furbaby like the homecook???

I cook the veggies in with the meat too. It's just easier that way. I add brown rice and haven't had any problems, but then Indy's only been eating it for two weeks now. I have not tried oats.

LOL about your brother eating the home cooked! Yuck!
