Diatomaceous Earth or anything else?

I'm trying to control any fleas that come on the yard and Roxy love to eat grass, so I don't want anything that's going to be bad for her. I was reading that Diatomaceous Earth is one of the best things and it's even safe to eat, so I was going to order it, but wanted to get some feedback if anybody has used it in their yard and how did they apply it?

If you are planning to feed it to her, just make sure that you get food grade diatomeous earth. If you are just going to spread it in your yard to combat fleas, food grade isn't necessary. Just be careful that you don't inhale it. I not sure how fast it works, but maybe keep Roxy out of the yard for the day, when you spread it and then water the grass before letting her out on it. You can also put it on your carpet.

Is the one that's not food grade that more expensive or would it just be better to get the food grade and if Roxy ate is so be it? Because it would be easier for me to allow her to be in the backyard than restrict her for awhile.
Most of the house is wood floors and tile, except the bedrooms which I'm hoping to get rid of the carpet soon, so I'm really mostly looking for the backyard that Roxy likes to spend her time in.

I have never used it myself and really have no idea about the difference in cost is. I can't recall where I have seen it discussed, but I suspect it was on one of my Yahoo Groups. It was probably this one: BeyondVaccination : Messages : 21309-21338 of 21338 You could join the group and see what you can find out.

As far as I know. It is breathing in of the dust that can cause a problem and that could happen with either type.

Good luck!
