Question Bug spray for dogs??

My Roxy girl is only 4 months old and mosquitos are TERRIBLE where I live. I don't want to put any chemicals on her but I am SO paranoid about heartworms. I just found out that mosquitos are what transfers the heartworm (I had no idea.. I had planned on getting her tested and prevented and all that good stuff) and we both get tore up outside during potty and play time. From what I understand I can't get her tested or put on a prevention for heartworms until 6 months. What do I do in the meantime?? And how do I keep those pesky boogers away from her!? Thanks!

Absolutely NOT true. You can start pups on heartworm prevention as early as 6 WEEKS old you just don't need to get them tested until 1 year in order to receive the RX heartworm prevention. If mosquitos are that bad, IMO absolutely start her NOW. At least I know Heartgard you can use as young as 6 weeks, if you check out their site it is on there.

For a spray I use Natura which is only available at PetCo I believe there's also something called Farnum Flys Off which repels mosquitos too. But as with any spray it is not 100% effective 100% of the time.

Another post mentioned using avon's skin so soft. I have always dumped a cup in the pool to keep flying things out, but hadn't thought to try it on the dogs until then. I massaged a handful into Buddy's coat and careful top of his head. It kept the flys away. I didn't put any where I thought he could lick it off.
