titre testing

Ok I know a titre is done by a simple blood test. I need to get one for Luke b/c he is going to a dog camp in Sept. when we go to Hawaii
And b/c we don't vaccinate the camp is insisting on a titre or we sign a waiver.

I am curious what is the cost and how do I read or interpret it?

Thx.

I think the test runs about $100 CDN. It is well worth it since vaccinations can cause a terrible immune system reaction in your pooch. Your vet can easily interpret the titers.

Bortadella

I just made an appt. for Luke to have his titres done. We are having the basic 3 done. This was requested by the doggy camp.

They are insisting that we give Luke a Bortadella shot (kennel cough). They said they won't turn him away, but they will make us sign a waiver in case he gets sick they don't want to be held responsible.

We recently just adopted a rescue who had bad kennel cough and Luke did not catch it. I told them about it and they said they insist we get it done. I then told her that even if they get the shot, the dogs can still get the cough. There is some holistic treatment apparently for it too. Anyone ever try that?

What does CDN mean? I'll be planning on Titering my dogs from now on. Will I need to draw a titer each year?

Beware of Different Costs

Hubby just brought Luke back from the vet. They charged us $283 for titers!!! The holistic vet only charges $163!!! They claimed that it would be cheaper for us to vaccinate!!!

Yikes! That is pricey! Running the tests will always be more expensive than the vaccines themselves; however, overvaccinating your dog is not a good idea. Hope your pups enjoy the camp! We usually run the titers every year to make sure our girl continues to be protected. The kennel cough vaccine is one that doggie daycares, etc. usually require regardless of the titer results. You made the right decision

I didn't get Luke vaccinated for the kennel cough. Do you think I should? They were really insisting on it. My theory is that...even with the vaccination they could still get it.

I didn't have a good conversation with the vet. They overcharged us apparently by mistake! Funny how that if I didn't call them, they probably would have just left it!

Jen, if it was me, I wouldn't vaccinate for kennel cough. Luke is healthy boy and should be able to deal with kennel cough if he happened to get it. What did the Titers end up costing? Is Leia not going to dog camp?
