Oh boy let the advantures start.
Well my rescue should be here in about a week. He will be my first rescue dog and boxer. A week seems so long now.
After going through the dogfeedanalysis I've decided on Go natural, Innova, and Orijen. Likely I'll be doing a two month or so cycle with each. I had no idea that's so much crap out there for dog food, scary.
Anyways other then food, it's time to get ready for the guy. And here's where you coming in? I got a list of things to get but would like other opinions as well to make sure I have everything. Help please?
Toys? I know about Kongs and will likely get all sorts of them. Treats? What's good, what's bad? There's so much crap out for food I can't image what "dog candy" is made of. Any other suggestions would be awesome.
Thanks

Congratulations on rescuing - you are an angel to do so. How old is the rescue?
Will you be crate training? The crate is a good idea - dogs see it as a safe place and I would imagine that rescues, more than other dogs, need a safe place. We use stainless steel dishes - less chance of bacteria compared to plastic dishes. Many dogs like kongs filled with treats or peanut butter. Maggie doesn't like them - it is either the texture or the taste but most dogs do. I would also have some soft toys - something to play with. Maggie loves to lie with her head/face on the soft toys. There are organic treats on the market - just check the ingredients. We feed Maggie lots of organic foods in addition to kibble - carrots, apples, celery, etc. A little bit of yogurt helps to control gas and she loves it - sometimes she does not want to eat and yogurt is a good fallback.
Of course, all the other necessary items - collar, leash, bedding. There are lots of books on training with positive methods.
And - do you have a name picked out? ;-)

Congratulations,I would make sure to keep anything you do not want the dog to get up & out of the way,TV remotes, shoes, etc,a wire crate for sure for the dogs saftey when your not around,a jolly ball is a good toy for him & you to toss around.Boxers love sqeak toys. Yes yogurt get fat free plain yogurt it really does help with gas
Liver treats are great to use for training, read the forums here they have lots of information,If you do not want your dog on your furniture or bed ,start right away not letting him on it is easier for them to undestand if they are never started in bed or on furniture
Most of all Love them they are so precious

Congratulations on your soon to be new guy, Jax. You are an angel for rescuing. As far as toys, Balboa loves anything that squeaks, especially the Cuz. He has about six and still plays with all of them. Even the ones that don't squeak anymore. Good luck. Can't wait to see pics.
