Thinking about rescuing a boxer.

My husband and I already have Bosley, who is a 6 month old male brindle. We are seriously thinking about getting him a sister boxer (around the same age) from a rescue. Bosley loves other dogs. What are your thoughts and precautions? We've done quite a bit of research, but I'm still not sure what Bosley with think about sharing his mom and dad.

Thanks for your help in advance!
Tara

Personally, I think it's a wonderful idea. You may have some difficulty finding a young female, though. Do a search on boxer rescues in your area, or go on PetFinder to see what's available. You'd be giving your boy a best friend and making another baby happy!

If you feel that you can financially afford another dog that you are physically able to keep up with another dog, that you have time for another dog, then IMO rescue is GREAT. My boy was a rescue and my girl is a rescue and they're GREAT. I would go with one maybe around 2 or 3 though since you already have a puppy. Two puppies can be a bit much. Also I would try to find a rescue that uses private foster homes only as opposed to boarding facilities, just from personal experience, it's easier when you get the dogs.

Best of luck to you!

Thumbs up

Go for it!
I got Sam from a boxer rescue in mid-January of this year. It was the best thing I did for Sally & I.
I can't imagine him not being there; it feels like he has been in the family much longer than January.
Good luck,
Mary, Sally & Sam

Thanks guys! I think we are going to get another one! My husband and I filled out the adoption papers at a rescue that deals with the region we are in. Hopefully it all goes well and Bosley will have a new sister (more than likely) sometime soon. I'll post pictures when it's all said and done!

Getting my 2nd boxer was a good move. They (a male and female) got along instantly. If you have the resources, go for it.

The remark about them being the same age is true. I am speaking from experience. Our male Dexter passed away from a brain tumor 2 weeks ago, he was 9 1/2 years old. We also have a female Sophie that we got from a friend when she was 9 months old, she is now 9 1/2years old. So they are both the same age, we just lost him, she is devastated they've been together since they were both 9 months old. Now I'm so afraid of losing her since she is older. I'm thinking of a rescue, my husband isn't. We'll see I think another around 3 would be great for us all.
