I am sending positive vibes that Baxter gets into rescue or into a new home. He sounds like he needs a little TLC.
People really make me so angry to send their babies to a shelter right before Christmas. And poor Faith, just had a litter of Christmas puppies and they send her off...hopefully there is a family out there looking for their Christmas rescue doggie instead of one of those puppies.
We are hoping that these babies find the forever homes they deserve. Keep us posted.

Good news finally! LA Boxer Rescue is coming to get Baxter tomorrow. After a heated phone conversation with a none too helpful or compassionate rescue person (the person didn't have the time or energy to 'deal' with the issue of getting the dog to rescue and this did not please me at all), there was a call placed to the shelter stating that someone would be in tomorrow to get him.

I was scared to open this, fearing Baxter didn't make it. Thank goodness a rescue is coming for him! You are Baxter's angel.
Good luck Baxter!

Thanks everybody. We just have one boxer left, the female, Faith. She has a few pending applications for her though, so she'll be finding herself a home soon. It's been a stressful situation, but at least I showed myself that one girl working at a shelter can save a few dogs. And that's the whole reason I'm there.

LOL that's how she got named. When she showed up she was covered in dirt and fleas and honestly, she looked like she dug her way out of a grave. And she was shaking so badly from the cold she couldn't stand. I was walking by and saw her, told her I was taking a leap of faith and grabbed a blanket and pulled her out of the drop cage and held her and rubbed her until she stopped shaking. I didn't know if she would eat my face off or not. She chose to not, instead she covered me with muddy kisses. And she has the BIGGEST butt wiggle I've ever seen. She can't even sit still.
When questioned by one of my co-workers as to why I fought so hard for the boxers, I said that I didn't choose Baxter or Faith or Trixie or Destiny, they chose me. I didn't want to get involved with rescue. I knew it was a pain (I see our rescue contact employee frustrated all the time over it). Had it been any other dog I wouldn't have did it. But it was Baxter.
When Baxter showed up he was so afraid he wasn't friendly. The first time I saw him he growled at me. But it was out of fear. He was starved so badly he looked like he could drop dead at any moment, he has calloused bed sores, and a face only a mother could love. Truly, he was ugly, even for a boxer. It took him a day or two to warm up to me, but within a few days he was friendly. Within a week he was jumping me and playing. But if you try to grab him (like one of our officers did) he'll try to eat your arm off. That's his only real issue. But now I grabbed him and he didn't try to eat my arm off. He was afraid, but backed off. He has a butt wiggle like I've never seen. Such a big butt wiggle that once he fell because he wiggled himself right off his feet. He has a big heart and needs so much to be loved. So much in fact if rescue turned him down I was planning to adopt him. Not that I have the time for another boxer, but I wouldn't let him die. It wasn't a good enough reason. Like Alyss being deaf wasn't a good enough reason. Some jerk who abused a dog isn't a good enough reason.
And through this ordeal I have learned that although I am just one girl working at a shelter, I can change the world. For one dog at a time.
