Stuck feeding hills w/d

So far my poor little guy has been a health nightmare any food he is feed does not agree with him. After multiple tests and too much money later they have ruled out almost everything except colitis. The vet had us try hills w/d for its high fiber content to solidify his stool. This has worked in solidify it the only problem is it provides zero nutritional value to only a 6 month old puppy. The vet is having us mix in iams low residue food for some nutrients but it is still not sufficient for him. She now wants to do a biopsy I assume to test for colitis but wants $2100 for it which I can not afford. My question is that since he is responding to a high fiber diet can't I just home cook or add fiber to a reputable dog food so he gets the nutrition that he needs while solidifying his stool? Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Have you tried a raw natural diet? Sometimes it can be the grains that are causing the problems. There have been cases here, where changing to a raw diet has been the solution for colitis.

Good luck!
