Again I say, I am so glad I found this site. I was also reading about the ProZyme recommended in another post and think I will try that too. I want him to be a healthy dog and live a full life. Definately don't want to do anything to jeopardize that! Thanks again!

ProZyme is great if he has loose stools, is severely underweight (not just normal Boxer puppy underweight), or has gas issues. If one of those three things isn't present it's probably something that is not necessary. It isn't needed for all dogs, however some dogs that are extremely thin or have gastric/bowel issues benefit well from it (such as mine).

He has some awful gas! He sleeps in my bedroom at the foot of my bed (on his bed on the floor) and sometimes he'll pass gas. It's so bad it wakes me up and I think he has pooped in the house!

I'm just now catching this thread. I too feed TOTW. I recently switched Arabella from the High Prarie (bison) to Pacific Stream (fish) just to give her some varitey. But you mention gas before, the bacon grease could be the cause for that.

I started mixing in TOTW bison with my girl's food last Thursday, and although she was pretty excited about it at first (shed go through and pick out the totw that was mixed in with her old kibble) but now that shes on about 90% totw she doesn't seem to be that excited about it she's always been a picky eater, but so I'm dissapointed. Any advise on another flavor would be better? I chose bison because it was the highest calorie and she needs it all! Not sure whether to talk to the store owner about getting a different kind (I wanted to buy the small bag but he talked me into the big bag and said he'd take it back if she didn't like it) or if I should give it a one bag try. And btw, you guys were right, the gas is HORRIBLE.... makes me wonder if her tummy is upset and that's why she's not liking it?

Where can I buy prozyme? I don't want to switch rocky's bison formula cuz it's the only one he'll eat WITHOUT me adding canned wellness core (which gets a bit $$) - but i usually rotate because I can't stand that my house smells like farts all the time....lol
I literally have come home and thought he took a #2 somewhere - but I can't ever find it - so obviuosly its just gas....LOL

Maybe in some stores but it's cheapest online. I get it on amazon for around $22 shipping included for the 454 gram jar and that lasts me a good long while.

Speaking of TWO... No Ethoxyquin in TOW?!
I've read this on other webiste and wanted to know it this is true & if anyboyd else has heard this:
"I was recently informed from Melissa Brookshire, DVM from Taste of the Wild, they have acquired a supplier that has permission to use a natural preservative prior to entering port. All of their ocean fish meal is now preserved with natural ingredients, NOT ethoxyquin, which was previously used."
Is this true? My babies are on pacific stream and I want to make sure they'll be ok to keep eating this.
Thanks!

Could I hope this is true? That was the reason I stayed away from the ocean fish. If it's true, that will be the next flavor for them!
Also, when switching flavors, do you do a rotation on that as well?

I went on the website of TOTW and under the faq, I got this statement. I also included the site. Hope that is ok. If not, please remove it.
Taste of the Wild : Faq
Does this food contain ethoxyquin?
"Taste of the Wild Pet Foods sources all protein meals (chicken meal, fish meal, etc) from vendors that do not use ethoxyquin. As always, only natural preservatives are used in our manufacturing process to preserve the foods."

Reply from TOTW Veterinarian on ingredients
As I mentioned in the Intro section, I'm actually a Labrador guy but I found this forum when researching dog food.
I have 4 Labs that are used as working gundogs and I do breed very occasionally. Mostly I breed when my youngest Lab reaches age 4. That way I always have a range of pup/started/seasoned/older gundogs in the stable. Works out quite well during pheasant season.
Anyway, as I said, I found this place through the dogfoodanalysis site and I learned something about Taste of the Wild dog food so I thought I'd post it.
I questioned TOTW on their ingredients, particularly on ethoxyquin in their ocean fish meal.
This is the reply I got, which I find to be positive.
So, I am in the process of switching my dogs from Acana (due to cost; I’m happy with the quality) to TOTW Wetlands right now. In my part of the US, Acana is $56 for the 29.7 pound bag and Tractor Supply has the TOTW Wetlands for $42 for the 30 pound bag. Seems a quality food at the right price. I'll give it a try and see how the dogs do on it.
I’m doing a blended transition, 3 parts Acana to 1 part TOTW for a week, then 2 parts/2 parts then 1 part/3 parts and in the fourth week all TOTW. I’m in the first week at present and all looks fine.
From TOTW:
“I do want to reassure you that our ingredients are sourced from suppliers that use natural mixed tocopherols as preservatives. This includes our fish meal suppliers. These suppliers have a special permit that allow them to use the natural preservatives instead of ethoxyquin.
The meals are not designed for human consumption and therefore would not be labeled as such – chicken meal, lamb meal, fish meal, etc. The vitamins and minerals are custom blended in premixes designed to be used in pet food, and therefore are not considered or labeled for human consumption. The fresh meats, roasted and smoked meats, vegetables and fruits are sourced from human grade sources, but once we take them into our pet food facility, are no longer considered “human grade”
Sincerely,
Dr. Brookshire”
