We also started Lacy on the yellow bag of the TOTW and not that she is approaching 9 mo we started mixing in TOTW - Wetlands Canine Formula with Roasted Fowl just for a little variety. She loves her TOTW.

I am feeding Raine the Pacific Stream. She is doing well on it but I will be switching to a higher protien version of TOTW when she reaches a year old. I think her stool is a bit soft for my comfort level. Not so bad cleaning up in the yard but soft enough that on walks it is a bit problematic!
She likes it but she likes anything that she can swallow.

We rotate. They love the Bison but it gives Clyde gas that clears a room.

I have read good things about TOTW so I bought the smallest yellow bag today. Samson is very picky. He'll eat something very good for 2 or 3 bags but then he'll refuse to eat it. This time he refused to even try the brand we bought. I hope he'll like the TOTW bison formula. But with all these posts about gas... I've been rethinking it..lol He has the worst gas anyway! Maybe it won't do that to him. I sure hope not and I hope he loves it!

Personally my GSD wasn't wild about any of them except for the Pacific Stream version. He LOVES fish foods. My boxer also loves the Pacific Stream version.

Hopefully Samson will like this one. We have never had a dog before. Well, let me rephrase that - We've never had a dog I really liked and cared about. I was never an animal person until I saw his sweet face and had to have him. So, we're all learning as we go. I am so glad I found this forum. I appreciate all the advice I can get. He seems to be on the small side to me but I've been told he'll start to fill out some when he gets a little older. He'll be 9 months old on the 11th. But he was the runt of the litter, too. Oh well.. small or big, we love him!

Also were you switching over to the new food over a 7-10 day period? I know my dog doesn't do well with change (mentally, he does fine physically). So whenever I change over to a new bag, even if I do a slow switch, once I get to 100% of the new food it usually takes him 2-3 days before he'll eat it. Tough love, sometimes you just have to have a stronger will than the dog ;-). A few missed meals will not hurt them as long as you are offering the food and they are making the choice not to eat I wouldn't be too concerned as long as he's healthy,.

No, we didn't do that but he just wouldn't eat it so I'd buy something else and he would. Then he'd eat whatever that was for a couple of bags and just stop eating it. I am such a softie and my head knows he won't starve but I just can't do it. My husband says the same thing. Then I'll catch him giving Samson a treat...and I fuss because if he's getting treats, why should he eat his food?! He really wouldn't be hungry then! I've heard so many different things about feeding.. Once a day only, leave it out all day, don't leave it out all day, add a tsp. of bacon grease once a day... It's so confusing!

OMG NO don't add bacon grease!!! Would you add bacon grease to YOUR food?? Boxers already have the potential for major heart issues, there is NO reason to add grease to anybody's food, animal or human.
The general "rule of thumb" for dogs is twice a day feeding approximately 12 hours apart, leave it down for 15-20 minutes if they eat great if not pick it up and feed at the next feeding time. If they are pulling the "I don't want to eat" then no treats until they are eating normal meals for a bit. If you want to add something healthy to it because you choose to (some high quality canned, some good lean meats, egg), then by all means have at it, but anything you shouldn't have as a human (healthy wise) your dog shouldn't be having either.
Good luck.

Actually, I live in the South and we do add bacon grease to a lot of food. Or lard.. Crazy, I know but we do for seasoning. You'd be surprised. The person who told me that said it would "fatten him up" as well as keep him from having worms. (Not that I believe that...)
But any time he has eaten any people food, he always gets sick! I don't feed him anything like that. As I said, this is all new to me and I'm learning as I go. I really appreciate all the suggestions. Please don't think I'm crazy..lol
Thanks again!

Okay I guess my point is that health wise you *shouldn't* add bacon grease to stuff. I lived in the south for years and we never did. But regardless yes I choose to eat McDonald's once in awhile, but I know it's not healthy so I wouldn't give it to my dog. PLEASE do not give your dog bacon grease. It's HORRIBLY unhealthy and completely unnecessary and with Boxers having such a high incidence of heart issues it just isn't worth the risk. They're just as happy with a few pieces of boneless chicken breast or a tablespoon of high quality canned food on their food which is much healthier and tastes just as good to them. Grease can also cause pancreatitis in dogs, give them diarrhea, vomiting, and a whole slew of other issues. Yes it may "fatten him up" but the same way that eating McDonald's will fatten you up...by clogging your arteries and damaging your heart. Not the way to fatten him up that's for sure. Very glad you don't do it, please, for your pup's health, continue with that.
