Calcium Oxilate Bladder Stones

Hello All,

Enzo had an issue, just lately, with Calcium Oxilate Bladder stones...Which he needed surgery for. He had crystals in his pee 3 years ago and a vet put him in science diet UD. We fed him this for a 16 months or so until it got to the point Enzo wouldn't even look at his food anymore and stopped eating, and the whole time he had various illness's. We figured, with him being so old, we should just let him enjoy his food and put him on a good quality Lamb and rice kibble mixed with a can of fair quality wet food. He's been eating like a champ since without any issues. However, now the bladder stones have become an issue and the vet is recommending Science Diet or Royal Canin SO, both which are not good foods. So what we are wondering is, can we just move him to a good quality wet food that is high in water and stay away from the Plastic jelly foods that the Vet is recommending? Also, does anyone have any suggestions? He's 14 now and behaves like he's three (for short periods). The surgeon said he has the constitution of an 8 year old. So it looks like we're going to have him for a while and just want him to be happy.

My co-worker just had this conversation with her vet-internest about her dog that has crystals. She was actually told by the internest that the SD and Royal where junk and to stick with the food she is using, TOTW, as it is better food and to make sure that she somehow increases the dogs water intake. He had also suggested can food for the water content. **of course that is what her vet told her, so you will have to make your own desicion** Good luck.
