My vet yelled at me. :-(
So, the other day, my vet asked me what I was feeding my dogs (This is not my regular vet, this was Diesels' Orthopedic Surgen)
I told him that I was feeding Diamond brand Naturals Lamb and Rice. He replied "What the heck is that? Where do you get it?" I informed him I bought it at TSC and he goes "Oh! So it's like Ol' Roy or Retriever huh? You need to get him on Purina or Hills! Don't be feeding that crap."
I was kind of upset that he was talking to me like I was an idiot, so I just said yes and got off the phone with him.
Ok, I know Diamond isn't the best dog food around. But I've been feeding it for years with great results and it's WAY better than purina and hills right?

Wow, is that how he keeps his clients coming back to him?? Sorry, but what a jerk! He had NO right to say that. Not to mention that it isn't true. Diamond is better than Hills and Purina, and it's definitely nowhere close to Ol' Roy! Even if you were feeding Ol' Roy, shouldn't your VET be the one to tell you in a NICE way that it's bad food??

Personally I'd find a new orthopedic vet and before I left the practice I'd tell him EXACTLY why you're leaving. That's absolutely uncalled for, not to mention the kicker is he's WRONG. Diamond Naturals is MUCH better than Hills or Purina absolutely 100% for sure. I wouldn't give that man another cent of your money nor put your dog's care to him and would make sure he knew why he was losing a client. Absolutely disgustingly uncalled for!

when it comes to nutrition and vets,it reminds me of the relationship the pharmecuetical companies in america have with doctor's,,,they push anything they get "sold",not told,,in other words, the only education both are getting about the products ,are from the salesmen/saleswomen on that particular sales trip to their location.

It's too bad many vets know nothing about nutrition--he is completely wrong in his opinion and what a jerky way to say it. It would be one thing if he nicely suggested Purina (which, blech, is much worse) but to shove it down your throat like you're feeding poison or something... yeesh.
When I had Juno on Taste of the Wild my vet went on and on about how grain-free and raw diets are nothing but a fad, and there is nothing that shows that they're any better than a "good" diet of Iams, Science Diet, etc. I was a bit miffed and did an internal eye roll but he wasn't a jerk with how he said it, and he did add in there that she was healthy and did look good, and to continue feeding her whatever works.

Thanks guys.
I was a little upset at being spoken to like that. Feels better that I'm not the only one who was horrified by his statement.
Lucky for us, Diesel doesn't need to go see him anymore. He had the pin pulled out of his left hind femer about a week ago. So no more dealing with Dr. Snotty. :-P

Uncalled for and unprofessional.
I would go to the food site, print out the reviews on each of his suggested crap and a review on your good food and mail it to him. I'd also add a personal note that he is a specialist, and since his degree is NOT in Nutrition, then may you suggest some good reading that will educate him in his area of non forte'. LOL Yep. I certainly would do it!

I absolutely agree! That is a great idea. Maybe then he'll get it.

I completely agree with lilylarue...send this guy some correspondence and put him in his place! Great idea!
I don't know if the quality of Purina is better in the U.S., but it certainly doesn't have a good reputation here in Canada.
