Jade lost 12lbs!

Jade was recently sick and spent 5 days on an IV, and didn't eat anything for 2 days prior to that. As aresult, she lost 12 lbs and she was already skinny! She is on prednisone and constantly hungry, so I've been feeding a little more, but she really needs to put on about 10 lbs. right now she is eating Orijen regional red. Any suggestions on what to feed to help her gain weight? Is canned food higher in fat? I was thinking of mixing wet and dry. I know it's going to take some time for her to put the weight on, but it's been 2 weeks and she hasn't gained a pound(she gets a lot of exercise as well).

For our rescue dogs that need to put weight back on, we feed multiple, smaller meals per day and will often use puppy food for a short period.

I agree, multiple smaller meals. When my boy got sick and lost 8 pounds my vet did NOT want him to gain that back very fast, she preferred him to gain it back over a 2-3 month period. He gained it back, but it did take about 2-2 1/2 months for him to gain it back. I just added an extra half of a cup of food to his daily amount and fed him a 3rd meal in the afternoon with 1/2 of food and fed him his normal 1 1/2 cups on the AM and PM and threw in a little canned or meat 3-4 times a week as always. He gained it back slowly and is just fine now.

Don't rush things, she'll get there. Good luck!
