Question Protein in food

How much protein should our boxers be getting in their food? When trying to decide on a good dog food, they go from 22% up to 44%. How do we know how much is too much?

For a puppy I would not feed a high protein diet.

My dog is now 15 months old and eats California Natrual is is between 21-24% protein.

25% is probably the max that I would feed for any aged dog.

I was wondering the same thing too because they make all these grain-free foods and they are all way up there in protein. Even Orijen makes a grain-free puppy food and I believe that's around 40% or more in protein. I was hoping more people would comment on this.

It does seem that all the really good grain free foods are high in protein. Thanks for answering, I am slowly taking Maggie off the Vet food, which was Iams Fish and Potato. I could not find a totally grain free food without a high protein content, so I went to Merrick Campfire Trout which has 25% protein. This does have Barley, Oatmeal and Brown Rice in it. I guess I will see what happens. It has only been Two days since I started adding it to her Vet food and already she is having loose poop. This was the reason the vet put her on the Iams, but then I found out through BW that it really is not a healthy food and very low in Protein. But I suppose I should wait for a week or two until she is finally totally on Merrick. If anyone out there knows of a really good food, grain free without a high protein content, please post what you know. Thank you both for answering!
