| Do I have to pay to be a BW member and participate on the board and gallery? |
| No, the access to Boxer World is free. This does not mean we accept everyone: members have to follow the site rules and we reserve the right to remove any member without warning for any or no reason whatsoever. |
| Can I send a private message? |
No, private messaging has been disabled for members as written in the rules.
They can only be used by moderators when they give a warning to members.
|
| I do not have a boxer. Can I still join Boxer World? |
Certainly. The site is oriented to boxer owners but anyone is welcome. Many members own a different dog breed, including the site owner.
Topics like nutrition, training, health etc apply to all dog breeds and with over 45,000 members it is very rare to witness a situation that has not already been experienced by some members.
Not owning a boxer does not exempt you from posting your introduction of course. We want to know about you and your dog breed :-) |
| Can I change my username once I am registered? |
No, you can not. We would get too many requests if we allowed it beside the fact it would create some confusion as someone else can take your previous username.
This is why you must choose it carefully when you register. |
| Why was my account deleted? |
| There are several possibilities:
_you were removed for breaking rules.
_your registered email address wasn't valid anymore or its mailbox was full and there were bounced mails from your account. Be sure to update your email address in your profile when you change your internet service provider.
_your account was inactive or you did not participate for awhile.
_you didn't confirm your registration by clicking the link you got by email. In this case, your account is usually deleted within two weeks.
_you didn't confirm your new email address by clicking the link you got by email when you updated your email address in your profile.
_you did not post an introduction. We insisted about it on the registration page.
_If you tried to register and got banned, you probably did not put a country in the location field despite the warning. We do not accept abbreviations such as az, pa etc as they are not countries. |
| What are the paw prints/titles for under our names, and how do you get them? |
The titles (and the blue paws) are based on the number of posts you've done:
Boxer Pal (Minimum Posts: 0)
Boxer Buddy (Minimum Posts: 30)
Boxer Booster (Minimum Posts: 80)
Super Boxer (Minimum Posts: 300)
Completely Boxer Crazy (Minimum Posts: 650)
Boxer Insane (Minimum Posts: 1000)
Posts are not always counted. It depends on the forums: per example, if you post to the Chit Chat or to the Testing forums, posts won't be recorded under your username.
The titles are not always automatically updated.
Your post count can decrease if your photos have been deleted or if threads you participated to are deleted. |
| I see a puppies for sale ad banner by Google. I was just wondering if you have control over these ads? |
Boxerworld, like any other sites using google, has no premoderation of what will be displayed as google looks for targeted keywords in the page you are reading.
The google advertising is based on the content of the pages and location of the person viewing it.
Per example I see ad banners written in French because I am based in France. You will not see them if you are based in the USA as there is no interest for advertisers to lose money by displaying French adverts to people based in the USA.
Now it is possible for us to ban sites (only after they appear and someone reports it) but there is a limit set by google as to how many may be banned. That limit of 200 sites has already been reached a long time ago. You can still report bad ads to the Contact Moderators forum by copying and pasting the link but keep in mind that banning it would mean unbanning another one. We banned ebooks web sites about how to make money selling puppies etc so reported links have to be pretty bad.
Why do we keep these google ads?
We keep them because the advertising changes all the time depending on the page content, which depends on replies. They are not all about puppies for sale. Also, with all the advice posted on BW you should know well not to buy from BYBs, puppy mills, etc and there is plenty of information available on the site about what to look for in a breeder. It would be extremely rare for a responsible breeder to advertise puppies in a google ad and we expect people to have enough maturity and sense to realise that (there is an age limit for a reason).
Advertising help to keep the site free. Scripts such as the board or the gallery cost. Web hosting fees are expensive, especially the powerful dedicated servers required to run the site. |
| I do not find/see my post. |
| There are several possibilities:
_The forums are busy, your message might be on page 2 etc. Use the search engine and do a search looking for your username to find your latest messages posted.
_You posted in the wrong forum and your thread has been deleted or moved to a more appropriate forum. See above about using the search to find it.
_Depending on technical problems (messages taking too much room on the database server etc), we sometimes prune the oldest messages.
_You have posted a message against the forums rules. You agreed to respect them when you registered to the board. Posts we judge not appropriate will be removed from the forums with no notice to the author who can be banned, depending on the message. Moderators do not have to justify why: as written on the rules, we reserve the right to delete, edit, move or close any message or to remove any member for any or no reason whatsoever.
_Your post was on a thread that got deleted.
_Your post is moderated. This happens with new members/members who have been temporarily banned/members who broke the rules/members who have not participated to the board for a while. You have to wait until a moderator approves it which can take some time. Approvals depend on how busy we are: from several times a day to once within 3 days.
We maintain this site as a hobby and we have jobs that require us to travel a lot.
Changes to members account privileges are at the discretion of the moderators.
_You posted in the Contact Moderators forum. That forum is premoderated: a moderator has to approve your post before it appears. We do not want to have useless messages posted there. Only questions not answered by the FAQ will be answered.
If you have not posted an introduction, any message you post might be deleted until you post an introduction.

| I have received a PM advising that I have an infraction. What is this? |
| It is a serious warning. Infractions are sometimes given in place of a temporary ban, and enables moderators to communicate the nature of the offence.
Warning notices may also be sent: these are primarily advisory (for example, why one of your photos was not approved), however repeated violations can result either in full infraction or ban. |
| What are the points associated with infractions? |
| All infractions carry a set number of points. If a member accumulates 10 points, they are banned automatically by the board. Lifting a ban is entirely at the discretion of the site owner, and may be never. Members who receive a temporary ban are likely to have their posts fully moderated in future. |
| Why is my thread closed? I did not break the rules. |
| All threads older than 30 days from the last message posted are automatically closed. |
| How long before points expire? Can other members see my infractions? |
| Only some points expire, and the duration they are valid for varies. Depending on the nature of rules violation, some points are permanent.
Only moderators can see infractions. |
| I just registered. I am trying to introduce myself, but it states that I do not have permission to access this page. |
| In order to be able to post, you have to activate your account (see the link below titled "I just registered/I just changed my email address but did not get the activation email. How I can I get it resent to me?"). The forums will email you a link to click so you confirm your email address is real. This is done within a few minutes. Once you have clicked the link, you get a welcome email asking you to post an introduction.
Be sure to visit the links at http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/view_newbie.htm |
| I had a temporary ban which has now expired, but my posts don't show up and I can't comment in the gallery. Is there something wrong with my account? |
| Nothing is wrong. As above, any member who receives a temporary ban is likely to have their posts fully moderated in future. You will have to wait for a moderator to approve any posts you make on the board. |
| I just registered/I just changed my email address but did not get the activation email. How I can I get it resent to me? |
First, be sure your mailbox can accept email (this is for AOL users mostly). Check also your spam folder. Some spam softwares do not filter emails well and might block legitimate emails.
To request for your activation code to be sent to you by email, please click here. |
| How do I delete my BW account? |
Please contact us here with your username and password.
This will also delete your gallery. |
