Waking during the night...

Macie used to sleep with us in the bed, and she slept through the night with no problems - NEVER wet the bed.

Now, we have decided to reclaim our bed, and she has a bed she sleeps on on the floor. She sleeps like a champ - except she has started waking in the middle of the night, trying to wake us. The first night we ignored her, and she peed on the floor.

Now we get up to take her out, and she sits there and looks at us - not really needing to go potty.

How do we break her of this 3am wake-up attention habit?

If she wakes up annoying you actually take her out to go potty. Even if she doesnt need to go wait until she does. She will probably get so pissed off at being hauled outside when she is tired that she wont wake you any more

Thanks for the replies!

Macie is 15 weeks old - she has been sleeping by herself for almost 3 weeks. She sleeps on a bed, with a quiet toy or two, and a small blanket.

I guess I will just get up to let her out... the problem is is that I am charting for TTC, and her waking me up disrupts the temps and sleep patterns. I know, completely selfish, but we will make it work.

(Yes, DH has been letting her out, but he is getting tired of "the game" )

Most likely it is just being awake that is causing her to need to go. We're all like that - no need to empty the bladder while we're sleeping, but once awake, that's the first thing on the list And that's quite normal - the bodily functions (urine production included) of all mammals slow down during deep sleep.

I'd just give her some time. Around 15 weeks is when most pups start to manage to sleep right through the night on their own. Since she's just having to get used to sleeping on her own now, instead of in bed with you, that's most likely why she's not sleeping right through. So just take her out when she needs to go, and chances are, in a couple of weeks she'll be sleeping through the night again (and in a big hurry first thing in the morning LOL).

Just an update - I somehow sweet-talked DH into taking her out when this happens in the night, and last night was her second night not needing to go out in the middle of the night. We have been pretty lucky with her in that bedtime pretty much is bedtime for her.

Thanks for the advice and words... I will post if anything else happens!

We have sort of the same issue although Lucy is 8 months! We made the "mistake" of letting her up in the bed at 5/6 when she wakes up. She'll then sleep until we get up. Well, little missy now gets up at 3, starts whining, nudging, trying to get up in the bed. We usually say "back to sleep" and she'll go back to her bed, but she'll try again at say 4 or 5 until we let her up. I feel like she's asking "is it time yet to get in bed with you?" "How about now?" I know, I know, once we invited her up we got her use to it. Maybe we'll start taking her out when she gets up to see if that bugs her enough to stop. She can hold it, but just wants to cuddle. I don't mind the cuddling, but sometimes I'D like to cuddle with my husband instead of her!!!

Haaa... That's exactly it! To her defense though, she really doesn't know what time it is
