Dark room or light

First I should say Hi!
I'm new in Boxerworld. I'm Yvonne and our Brindle Boxer is Kiva.
What fun..

I was wondering now that we seem to have a puppy-proof room for our 4-1/2 old, what do you think is best for the lights?

My thoughts were to simulating day light and night time as appropriate.
The only room that works for her has no windows, and she spends the day there while we are away at work and school, as well as the nights there sleeping..

should we keep it dark?
Thoughts?

I can't imagine that it would be a good idea to leave your boxer in the dark all day. Disruption of circadian rhythms aside, lack of sunlight can lead to vit D deficiencies and also to alopecia (hair loss). Can't you leave her somewhere where she'd get some natural light?

Good thought.
Though I should mention that the hours of confinement school hours only.
and it will only be until she's house trained.
I didn't think leaving her in the dark was a good plan I just wondered if it would keep her calmer.

I wish I could leave her in the light.
And we did try.
Dogini was leaping 5-1/2 ft baricades to get out of the kitchen.
There was only so much plywood I was willing to have up over the entrance ways. Open floor plan *sigh*
It was encouraging to read that other on BW have similarly escaping boxers.

Krose does not like dark one bit and even refuses to move in the apartment until I turn on the lights

Why don't you try to make your living room puppy proof. I didn't crate Krose from day one and it has worked great for me.
Yes he did get in trouble, yes he knew it... but they are puppies you know
I would try to get everything out of his reach, anything that he could get himself hurt or into trouble. I still do this when I leave him alone in the house.

The only time I leave my boys in the dark is at night when they are sleeping. At all other times I either have the blinds pulled open so they have sunlight, or I keep the lights on.

You could also try leaving her in the bathroom. It is easy to puppy proof and there is usually a window to let in some sunlight.

dark or light

Unfortunatly our house plan is rather open so our selection of puppy-proofable rooms is limited.
The downstairs room where we put her now, and that seems to be working out just fine.
She gets light during the day and dark at night.
As close to natural rythms as possible.

She has a little spot in there much like a cave that her pillow is in and she favors that strongly over the crate which has now gotten too small.

Thanks for everyones thoughts and help though.
