Can someone give me educated input?

My puppy is 9 weeks old and I've had him for 2 weeks. I started kennel training him right away because I work normal business hours and I've seen what a boxer can do to a house if left out. So I leave at about 8:30am and come home for lunch at 12 or 12:30 to let him out for about 45 minutes. I put him back in his kennel from 1:00 to 5:30. He is doing okay with potty training and has had minimal accidents in his kennel. My question is this... Is this okay to do with a 9 week old puppy? He whines when I leave which I know is normal, and he is quiet when I walk in the house until I open the cage (which is good). I know the initial excitment is normal but then he continues to whine for about 10 minutes after I let him out and I'm playing with him. Is that normal?

Thanks for the info. I have been putting a towel down and he only pees every now and then. I'll try without a towel if I continue to see accidents. What about the whining after I let him out though?
