using an exercise pen

We are getting our furbaby on Saturday, YEAH!! However, I'm trying to see if anyone here has used an exercise pen and had some success with it. It is almost impossible for us to block off our kitchen(the only room without carpet) because of the way it is shaped. I was wondering if I could use the exercise pen for at least a short period of time as a way of keeping him contained while I was in another room. Please help me!!

I know people have used an exercise pen successfully. It is an alternative to a crate and will keep your puppy safe when you can't keep an eye on him. It won't help with your housetraining however as it is too large. If you used a crate it would help with the housetraining .
