Question

I have an XL dog carrier that I would like to use as my soon-to-be-here boxer puppy's crate. Aside from blocking off part of it for the puppy, can these type of carriers be used as full-time crates just like the wire versions?

Yes. In fact my trainer recomends the crates rather than wire kennels. Crates are more den like and can quiet the dog easier than a wire crate that allows then to see all around.

We use crates for both dogs. Word of warning...it was hard to block off part of the crate. Our dog kept climbing on the barriers and was scared to get down. We ended up buying a smaller kennel for Amaya when she was really little.

I also think that the plastic crates are better than the wire ones. Though wire ones are probably easier to block off. With Markus, I just put a large cardboard box in the crate, which was just the right size to take up half the space. The corners got a little chewed, but he never destroyed it.

Good luck with your boxer puppy. Please tell us more about him!

We have 2 of those type of crates (one large and one extra-large). We use the largest one when we go camping, etc., and both our boxers sleep in it together! The smaller one is in the house for Bailey.
