Really Reliable Recall
Has anyone here trained a RRR (as taught by trainer Leslie Nelson), and if so what are your words for it?
I was going to go with a simple "Come NOW", but I find that I can't say it in a happy voice... It always comes out sounding harsh. So now I'm thinking, as ridiculous as it sounds, about going with "Freeeeeeeeeeee COOKIES!!!!"
I'm curious what anyone else's RRR words are!

LMAO! I like Free Cookies! I highly doubt any stranger would be yelling that at any time.
I use Come,Come it a happy voice. But I can't say it's a reliable recall at all. It certainly wouldn't work in a field. LOL

Ours is Toby! You want a treat? Then shake the bag, it works everytime, but I'm sure with time he's going to figure out that it means you have to come back, time for us to go in or it's bed time....and the shake of the bag of treats will no longer work! Lol!

LOL... daddys' home, ring the doorbell, knock on a wall, lock the car using the remote to make the 'horn noise' these dogs are too smart for their own good! they know you messing... drop to the ground and start rolling around till the dog comes, then grab it quickly!
I sound pretty mean saying the 'come here'... think its the 'here' part mostly. I use 'idziemy' (follow) and 'choc' (come) - both Polish. She's great now but when we were training I didn't want people to look at me calling out 'come' a million times. They didn't have a clue what I was saying, only that I was stuck saying the same word over and over LOL
See what I do for you Cora!

The point of Leslie Nelson's Really Reliable Recall is that this particular recall cue NEVER means any of those things. It is a recall you train to a separate verbal cue than your regular recall cue, in a specific manner, in specific circumstances, with specific reinforcement and at 100% reinforcement rate so that you can pull it out in an emergency and get an immediate and reliable response from your dog.
My RRR cue is "Puppies!" in a high-pitched voice.
Thirty-some-odd years ago before Leslie had come up with the RRR, my mom used this technique with our door dashing Alaskan Malimute. If the dog got out, mom would call "Hoppy Hoppy" (the name of our rabbit) and the dog would dash back to her and my mom would let the dog try to bite at the feet of the rabbit through it's wire coop. Yes, I know it was probably horribly stressful for the rabbit, but the dog could be in full sprint after a bicyclist and she'd turn on a dime and come back every time.

Joan I don't even think it matters. Poster is looking for suggestions on words/cues to use that don't sound harsh. Whether you use the word as your RRR or its just a recall word they can use it for their purpose.

For my dogs anytime they don't do as they are told the first or second time, whether it is recall, or sit, or whatever because they are too distracted, all I have to add is "now". I do not do it in a happy voice. I do as if I am telling them this is your last chance. I lower may voice just a bit and say it sternly. My dh calls it the "mom voice". (Yes, he could be petulant as a child) I don't yell. Works 99% of the time. (Arabella sometimes thinks she still has to prove her point.)
With my first girl Star, I would say "come...now" and she wouldn't always come, but she would stop. She would look at me, but you would see her mind going and she is debating what to do. Then I would tell her, "Don't make me come get you." Then she would come. I had people at dog parks laugh at me for talking to her like she wasn't a dog but a child. They would laugh right up to the time she was trotting her way back to me. Then they were just slack jaw.

Well as recall is only starting to work for me I use a stern voice because when I use a light hearted voice Roge thinks im playing.
My parents Boxer gets very excited when Spike is around ( my terrier ) I dont know why because spike is a bully anyhow when their dog gives the deaf ear to recall they call " here Spike " and lo and behold back he comes ???? I dont know how or why but it works.

Bella is deaf when you say come. But, I have learned the if I say listen or what is that, she will turn and look at me, then I say come and sometimes it works. I can ask if she wants a treat, sometimes that works as well.
Napoleon, I just say over here and he will walk over beside me.
They all respond differently to things, you never know what will work.
Gotta love em!
