Play dead

I taught tyson to play dead, but i used the command "bANG BANG!" as the queue.
Your pup will have to know the command "down" for this trick.

1.) have your dog perform "down"
2.) ONce he/she's in this position, lure the treat to the side so that he lies on his side. You can even give him a little nudge to help him get on his side.
3.) once he gets the hang of it, laying on his side to get a treat will be almost second nature.
Start adding "play dead" or "bang bang" as a queue word. I also draw my hand like a gun and point to the side of my dog to give him a physical queue.

Hope that helps.

PS. you may have to have him "down" before play dead while you practice. But the more you train Play dead, he will be able to do it from a standing or sitting position.

Begging is a fun one...but I call it balancing 'cause everyone thinks I'm wierd for teaching my dogs to 'beg'
The only rule to this trick is that their bottom has to remain on the ground. Just standing on their hind legs isn't enough for me to give them a treat, and it also leads to just jumping for the treat (found this out the hard way.)
I also taught the "Bang" cue for playing dead. My JAck russel does it really well, but she kinda cheats because she only will tilt her head to lay on the ground from the 'down' position. not her whole body. Which is fine with me 'cause she used to get confused between dying and roll over. (She can roll over all the way acoss a room! very immpressive.)
Another one that I like to teach is to 'wait for it' I balance a treat on their noses and make them wait for the comand to get it. I can have all three dogs sitting with treats on their noses. My mothers springer spanial was the best at it and could catch the treat before it hit the floor. If you are really creative, you could combine the begging with the treat on their nose. I've yet to be able to get to that point though.
