can i reclaim my bed?
unfortuately my dh and i let both guinness and cheetah sleep in our bed as youngsters. however now they are two and three years old and weigh 85lbs each. dh is now deceased and although i have a king size bed. the boxers get most of it. i would like to streach out in my own bed!and have covers without a dog holding them down. they have their own beds but won't sleep in them. i can't lock them out of my bedroom as they would whine and scratch the door all night. any sugestions? thanks for your help. darla

Re: can i reclaim my bed?
Well i dont know if its possible to reclaim ones bed after a boxer has been introduced to it(LOL)as my DW and i have found that no matter what we try our GDOGS always manages to slide into bed w/us.he to is also large for a boxer standing almost 27 inches @the withers and tipping the scale at 96lbs so by chance if you or anyone else knows of a way please be sure to let me know too! Re: can i reclaim my bed?
Yeah welcome to the club! I had to upgrade to a king size this spring myself. Maybe a California king might help?!?! LOL Good luck!

Re: can i reclaim my bed?
yes, good luck with this one! our 2 are about 65lbs each, and i swear, my back hurts every morning from them moving my legs and laying all over me!! we will push ours (waking them up) off the bed in the middle of the night, but it only lasts for about 15 min! not worth it to me! we did the same thing with ours-- slept with us since we got them, to bond! lucky us, i think we did a pretty good job!

Re: can i reclaim my bed?
I'm a sucker for letting them up on the bed. I usually let them on in the morning when DH gets out of bed or on the weekend with all of us on there. You will hear me whispering loudly or yelling at them to go to their bed or go lay down 2 or 3 times in the night. They usually listen and you will hear huffing and puffing, but they eventually lay down. As of now only one is able to jump onto the bed. At 5 in the morning, I've given in. I'm too tired to argue.

Re: can i reclaim my bed?
We, too are in the same predicament. I keep telling DH that this summer, it will be warmer in the bedroom therefore they won't want to cuddle so much and maybe I can try to get them some big comfy beds for the floor and "retrain" then to sleep there. I know it will be hard to do this, but we are giving it a try. I anticipate many nights of not much sleep. Come to think of it, it's really not much different than now.

Re: can i reclaim my bed?
Thanks for starting this thread - DH insists Biff is NOT allowed on the bed, though I'm guilty of sometimes tempting him up, DH always chases his back down again
No-one seems to have answered your original question, Darla, so I guess it's something we should simply never start
Darn it - I hate when DH is always right!

Re: can i reclaim my bed?
I say you can, however the training will take some time, & patience on your part (a few sleepless nights in fact).
You will have to give them beds of their own, & you will have to be extremely consistent in making them sleep there, after all they have been on your bed for a long while now.
Good luck.

Re: can i reclaim my bed?
Millie sleeps with us occasionally, it is by no means every night but that is because she SNORES!!!!! It's horrible and I am a light sleeper. Also the leg stretching and wet nose in the armpit doesn't help. But she has no problem sleeping in our bed one night and sleeping in her crate the next. I think the key word there is CRATE. They'll probably whine and cry but just like a new puppy, you have to ignore it and they will get over it.
