TOTW & MANY others, shipments suspended

Follow up to this thread:
Recall diamond pet food

The manufacturer (Diamond) has suspended shipments from its South Carolina facility until further notice. Food this *might* affect which are:

Taste of the Wild
Solid Gold
Canidae/Felidae (cats)
Natural Balance
Kirkland (Costco Brand)
Chicken Soup
4-Health (Tractor Supply Brand)

As of TODAY there has been no mention of which foods are coming from the plant that has suspended shipments. This is NOT a recall but no food is leaving this facility. For further info you can Google "Diamond Pet Food Suspends Shipments".

TOTW is made at all 3 Diamond plants, not just the one in SC, so no worries on that one.

This is all getting a little silly, though!

3 out of 4 dogs having issues eating TOTW

I wanted to add, for the last month, 3 of my dogs have been either refusing to eat their meals, or vomiting their entire meals. Two have explosive diarrhea.

Buster is the huge one that is refusing 1 out of 2 meals a day now - for about 2 mos. I thought maybe he was getting older and just didn't need as much food or is getting more sensitive. But now got worried when Fozzy is now refusing 1 out of every 4th meal. He's about 2-1/2 and always had an over the top appetite.

Smiley, who eats everything, even non-food items, has been vomiting his entire meal about every 3rd meal - the last week only. I have to call him to come eat when before he was the first at his bowl dancing until I set it down.

Lily who will finish what everyone else has left behind, is now very slow to eat. I have to encourage her to finish her meals.

All dogs are excessively drinking, two are quite lethargic/lazy and none have the energy they did 3 mos. ago.

Buster would be the first to show symptoms - he has a sensitive stomach and very good at smelling bad food and being finicky at what is presented to eat.

This weekend was at an AKC show and talking to the ex-breeder/vendor next to me that her dogs were having issues on TOTW - lack of enthusiasm to eat, diarrhea, low energy. She called TOTW and couldn't get a direct answer to any of her questions other than they didn't change their recipe. She specifically asked about the tainted food and if a recall would be made. They only said the distributors would be the first to know of any recalls.

Talked to my supplier/store: TOTW during a routine USDA examination found salmonella on one of their machines. TOTW voluntarily shut down all plants for full testing. Some Distributors have been declining the sales of TOTW until further results. Some dist have not! It has not been officially recalled, and stores were told they can continue to sell what is on their shelves. TOTW is manufacured in a seperate plant than other Diamond manufacturers.

This is the beginning of the possible recall - no difinitive answers yet on anything. My store has pulled the Lamb recipe off their shelves. NOTE: Even the Bison/Venison recipe has lambmeal in it, so could possibly be tainted as well.

The lamb source is from NZ. There hasn't been an across-the-board lamb issue in other brands, so it's very likely it's the TOTW plants that are the culprit of the outbreak.

Now I'm off to feed bland diet for a week to see if there is any change and to the vet to test stool samples. Will let you all know what comes back in the testing.

Wow, thanks for the info. I am currently on a bag of Earthborn holistic grain free but my next bag would have been TOTW I think I might hold off on that until we know what's happening.

I would. I am switching to Earthborn after the bland. My store is bringing it in now to offer the TOTW customers to switch over until the issues are resolved with TOTW.

I just talked to my trainer which is where I purchase my TOTW. She just placed an order this morning and our local distributor has put a hold on all TOTW and Chicken Soup products. They are saying that it is precautionary at this time.

Dang! I buy my TOTW 3 bags at a time. Arabella is almost thru her second bag. I was thinking since I bought them a couple of months ago I missed the problem. Now after reading Lisa's (LILYLARUE) post I am not so sure. Arabella has been throwing up once or twice a week. And some days she doesn't want to eat. Yesterday It was after 3pm before she ate anything. Well I guess I will go out and get something else. I was thinking about Wellness Core reduced fat anyway. She is having trouble losing weight after her round of steroids.

UGH! I just rotated Cornelius back to TOTW Pacific Stream (didn't really like him on Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison). He's through 1/2 the bag and he's doing fine but I probably should rotate to a different food again. It takes him FOREVER to transition to a new food. Drat.

Thanks for the update guys!

Light bulb moment here....
Raine is not a puker however has vomited twice in the past couple of weeks. both times were during the middle of the night (oh what fun) and I chalked it up to an evening bully stick. The store I buy them from is carrying a new brand.
She has eaten multiple bully sticks a week over the past 1.5 years and aside from swallowing a complete 12 inch bully AT ONCE it has never resulted in her vomiting. Maybe I was blaming the wrong thing and it is related to TOTW however at this point she isn't slow to eat or refusing to eat. That would for sure be a massively huge red flag something was wrong since she has yet to miss a meal in her life.
I am not convinced there is something wrong with her food but it does give me a chance to think outside the box and not be so quick to blame it on something else.
Only thing I can do it stop giving her any bully sticks for a while to see if the vomiting happens again.

Oh my god.. I was about to make a post about my concern for Farah's recent vomiting episodes. Over the past two weeks, she's thrown up her dinner four different times. It's not been frequent enough for me to rush her to the vet but this was highly unusual for her. She's been eating the Taste of the Wild Wetlands/Seirra Mountain forumula so I guess I'll have to switch her over to something new until this is sorted out.

OK, I'm totally paranoid now even though Cornelius has been fine on this new bag of TOTW. I don't have the bag anymore so I can't tell which plant it came from. Anyway, I'm not taking any changes, I went out and bought a bag of Blue Buffalo Wilderness Salmon and started the switch. Hopefully since it's the same protein and grain free, the transition won't take as long. *fingers crossed*

There isn't an issue with the pacific stream. No lamb in that one, so I'd think you are pretty safe with that recipe. That is if you are comfortable with it.
