Consumer Affairs complaints on Canidae
For those of you that have had issue with the formula change, you check out the complaints there. Google complaints on Canidae and you will be amazed. I have posted in a few threads today on issues we are having. Diesel is spending the night at the vet after blood work and x-rays. Save yourself the trouble and switch immediately if you are experiencing loose/yellow stools, vomiting, diarrhea, hives, dry/itchy skin, etc.
I am in shock that so many people are experience the same problems since the formula change. . .even though the change occurred in May of 2008.

They didn't do that!!! Those changes were for the better, not worse.
I too have seen alot of forums, etc with people with problems since the change. You'd think they would get the idea, but I guess not

Maybe the changes were for the better in the long run. It is still frustrating to be going through the what we have and to find out that so many other dog owners have had similar experiences. Not just since the change in the formula, but at the exact same time as us!

Unfortunately they're not. They're lower quality ingredients and it's more grain heavy now. They just want consumers to believe it was for the better.

After three days and two nights at the vet, our boy is home. As stated previously tests have come back negative. A diarrhea sample was sent off and we should get that back in few days. While at the vet, he did not have any vomiting issues. He stool was loose yesterday and formed today. Say what you want, but I am 100% sure it was the Canidae.
He is a prescription diet for now. I will be changing to Innova or something of the like once is off the prescription diet. Hopefully we won't have anymore problems.
If anyone has had problems you should check out the consumer affairs website. You will not believe the posts from other dog owners. They keep coming in, day by day.

Before knowing any better, we started our girl on Eukanuba Natural Lamb & Rice Puppy Formula (I know, ewww, but it was only an 4lb bag). Then I did research on dog food and decided to switch to Canidae ALS with a 15lb bag.
Layla did ok on Canidae. I did notice she had flakes, but I thought it could be from the cold and dry weather. We fed her according to the feeding guidelines, but she rarely finished her bowl and never seemed interested. We figured she wasn't a big eater.

Me too, after reading so many negative comments on Canidae, I got paranoid and I decided to transition to Wellness Puppy.
So far, she LOVES Wellness. Her appetite has increased and she always leaves the bowl empty. (I always give her a bit more when she stares at her empty bowl after chowing down.)
Her flakes have decreased to almost nothing, and her coat is so much softer.
Although Layla didn't do "bad" on Canidae, I feel she's much happier eating Wellness. I am going to continue on Wellness for now.

I'm glad Diesel is home.
I have read some of the complaints. Incredible. I guess Canidae will continue to lose their customers.

Hey All,
It has been sometime since I have posted here. I have come back to do research on new foods. The Canidae change has been horrible for us as well. Poor guy is so itchy & very smelly, chews his feet like crazy.
I may switch to a grain free kibble or actually a raw diet and see if it helps my boy's intolerance's & allergies.
Cheers, its good to be back.

canadie
I have had Tyson on Canadie all life stages since we got him at 9 weeks old and he now 17weeks. We have had no problem. Should I just keep on eye on him, do you think he is ok?

I don't feed Canidae any more, but it was what Oscar was eating when we adopted him, and he continued to eat it for quite a while before I rotated him to another brand. I fed Mali the Lamb and Rice variety when we first adopted her, until she was old enough for grain-free kibble. I feel badly that Canidae is not a kibble I can recommend anymore, but with all the problems that I am reading about, I would not suggest it to anyone.
