Re: Dog Food Recall

Here is the recall link - http://www.menufoods.com/recall/product_dog.html I don't see Merrick on it - and I like that food, too.

Exclamation Re: Dog Food Recall

They say it's only w/ moist packs and can foods.. But..
IMHO I wouldn't TOUCH ANY of the brands affected .. Not EVEN dry kibble!!! How the devil do we KNOW that it isn't there too? Someone might say that no cases have been reported due to the dry kibble.. But.. is that what it takes? Someone's precious creature to die before they figure out that the wheat or whatEVER was affected in the kibble too? NOPE! I'd not trust ANY of those brands.. can, moist pack OR kibble!

Just my two cents... No chances taken here.. I love my babies too much.. You can NEVER replace them.. never.....

Re: Dog Food Recall

Merrick is not affected by the recall. Here is a link to Merrick's site confirming that their canned foods are safe. http://www.merrickpetcare.com/about_us/news.php

Re: Dog Food Recall

From what I hear in the news reports, this terrible contamination could affect a lot of pets. My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone whose pet is hurt by this. Perhaps there might be some good that will come out of this terrible business if it helps people to realize that most of what is sold as "pet food" today is often really a collection of barely edible waste products, produced under appalling conditions. Perhaps it will drive more people to get better nutrition for their pets.

Re: Dog Food Recall

Thank you Albie! I didn't think to check their website. What a relief! I will have to admit though, I've been putting off switching to raw for the last year or so, and this recall made me decide to switch as soon as her bag of canidae & merrick cans are gone. I've done a ton of research for the last few months and have all the recipe's ready!

Good Luck with your switch to Raw Alex C. It's a bit strange at first, but I got a feeling of elation immediately! Knowing how it would help my TaTanka's immune system (he had demodex and it is totally gone and he has a beautiful coat now! *whew!*) Now I'm more than happy to tell others about it when they ask what I'm doing w/ all those "chicken backs n' necks!" *grinz*
This dog food scare has been awful for so many ppl.. "(

Exclamation Re: Dog Food Recall

More foods have been recalled -
http://www.canada.com/topics/news/ag...d04443e&k=4093

A pet food recall has been expanded to include all varieties of its wet dog and cat food, amid concerns that tainted products are still being sold.

The Mississauga, Ont. based Menu Foods is asking retailers to remove all wet food items as a safety precaution, regardless of the date code.

In a weekend release, Menu Foods said that even brands not on the official recall list should be taken off the shelves.

***I feed Champ a can of Innova Evo 95% every night (which is no crap food). That is made by Menu foods (wet food only), although it's made in their South Dakota plant. I just called Natura, parent company of Innova, and they said it's the Kansas and NJ plants in question and the food I have is completely safe. I'm switching tonight - I'm not taking any chances.
This is too scary.

By the way, there are reports of up to 2,000 animals dead because of this.

Re: Dog Food Recall

is Wellness canned affected at all?
i noticed on the list of foods at http://www.menufoods.com/recall/product_dog.html it doesn't list science diet and i thought that was mentioned in the recall.
how do we even know if this list is complete.
i've stopped all canned dog food and have my 3 on only kibble for now. but my cat is old and has NO TEETH left. he can't be switched to kibble. he needs to be on wet. we have him on Wellness canned.
this is way too scary

Re: Dog Food Recall

verified via website 3/24/07)

Menu Foods IS used for some wet Science Diet cat food products
- these have been recalled. No other Science Diet foods are affected

I would go to their website and verify and then switch to something else.

Re: Dog Food Recall

Wellness says
(verified by company rep 3/26/07)

“Menu does make some of our canned cat and canned dog foods. They make
OUR recipes according to OUR quality standards.”
“We have procedures in place to clean between each run of food that is produced. We also inspect the plant regularly to audit their procedures. Since we take our quality very seriously we go above and beyond what is expected in the industry. We are happy to tell you that we require our facilities to pass an audit by Cook & Thurber, a HUMAN FOOD auditing firm.”
Other manufacturers are used besides Menu Foods.
Products do not contain wheat, corn or soy, artificial preservatives, flavors or colors.
