Re: Dog Food Recall

I just heard on the news that one of the ingredients of the recalled foods is contaminated with rat poison, but neither the ingredient or the type of poison was identified. Stay tuned...

THANKS! And hope all is well with your baby

Re: Dog Food Recall

I must say I have found myself obsessed with this recall. I have been feeding Bella Nutro kibble (I know, don't say it!) mainly because it is readily available to me without driving to a larger city to get the really good stuff. My other 2 have eaten Kibbles & Bits (I know, even worse!) all their lives. Today I made the decision to throw all of this away - even though dry food isn't recalled, who's to say the wheat in the K&B is any better than the canned. DH agrees and tomorrow we are making a trek to the big city to get several bags of Canidae, everyone is going to be getting the good stuff! Sad to say it has taken the lives and sorrow of other pets and pet lovers to make me see the light.

Angry Re: Dog Food Recall

That just sucks... Last night on the news there was a lady that lost one of her boxers to this in Phoenix area.. and her other boxer is grieving plus now believed to be suffering too, and her bill had passed 2,000 dollars already..
These food companies are going to have some mighty big lawsuits.. so I would think..
I know if I lost a pet to this such horror, I'd ride these companies to the end of the earth to make them pay for destroying precious creatures and causing so much heartache to the ppl that love them..
I just want to offer prayer to anyone that is suffering through this. How very heartbreaking...

Re: Dog Food Recall

It blows my mind that rat poison would be used anywhere near wheat that was to be used for animal food.

My heart goes out to those families that have lost their lovely dogs.
Next,I'd get straight onto a good lawyer too
Waldo and I have had such a gorgeous afternoon,he chewed on his bones in
the backyard while I read a book, plus a glass of wine, then a good hard play with his cuz,I could never forgive anyone who took those simple joys away from me. Heartbreaking wouldn't even touch it,I'm afraid.

Re: Dog Food Recall

The toxin has been identified as aminopterin. From what i understand it is used to kill rodents in some countries but it is not registered for that reason here in the US. It is used here in the US as a cancer drug, but if given in high doses it can be highly toxic. It inhibits the growth of malignant cells and suppresses the immune system in humans. It also causes kidney failure in dogs and cats. I'm sure this whole horrible ordeal will be a long drawn affair. I really do feel for all the pet owners out there affected.

Re: Dog Food Recall

I actually had purchased one of the brands on this list - Nutro - and used it as part of my two's diet. Unfortunately, they ate it, but I haven't observed anything. Miss Holly is a picky eater and we got the cuts and gravy stuff to entice her to eat. It wasn't their entire diet, however, so I am keeping my fingers crossed and my eyes open. She just had a full panel of blood and urine tests so we hope we're okay.... I am more and more feeding raw as part of their diet. They love it.
