Bumps on muzzle

Our 1 1/2 year old gets bumps on his muzzle. They seem to be an acne type of deal. He only gets one or two at a time and they go away after a while. Has anybody else's dog experienced this? Does anybody have any info?

Quite a lot of dogs get acne. Most commonly it is an adolescent problem (no surprise), but it can persist into adulthood and boxers seem to be a breed more prone to that than many.

Things that help are using stainless steel or ceramic food and water bowls (never plastic) and washing them frequently in the dishwasher. Likewise, wiping and drying his face after eating is helpful. If needed, you can apply a weak hydrogen peroxide solution to the spots. Here's a short article on acne in dogs that might be useful to you: http://www.peteducation.com/article....&articleid=878

Thanks!

Appreciate the info. We've got two teenage boys going through the same thing! Our house is full of hormones!

Our Dino has a lovely big red spot right on the front of his muzzle just now, they come and go but don't bother him at all.

I second the advice to use SS dishes and wash frequently. Spenser used to get puppy acne on his head where he would rub against the side of his bowl. Vet said to not worry about it, but it didn't get better. As soon as I switched to stainless steel, and washed after every meal, that was the last of the acne!

Smile acne tips

My Steeler has acne really bad under his chin. I was really worried at first because they would bleed and get really big. We went to the vet and she gave us a special shampoo to put on him. You put it on there acne and let it sit for a little while then wash their whole body with it. She also told us (this is gross) but we could pop them and it would help them heal faster. We don't mess with them in that way, but the shampoo seems to make him have less and heal faster. Hope this helps. I will look at the name of the Shampoo when I get home from work. Kisses-Buckeye and Steeler.
