Unhappy urination issues- not UTI (long - sorry!)

Yesterday afternoon, my DF returned to a huge puddle of pee in the kitchen by the back door. It was almost hard to tell if it was pee or not - it seemed very diluted. He was not sure if Oscar or Sydney was the culprit and no one was caught in the act, so he kept his cool, cleaned up and took them out several times reminding them to "potty outside."

When I came home, Oscar peed in the dining room. Then we had to leave for a short time and he (we assume he) had another accident. Then from 8 - 10 p.m. he rang his bell to go out and pee every 15 to 30 minutes. He is very well potty trained and I think it upset him very much that he had gone potty in the house. He urinated every time, some more than others. He was not straining with nothing coming out - he was actually peeing that often! I did not notice any unusual foul oder or discharge. He was also drinking more than usual, so I started to panic. We loaded up the family and went to the ER vet.

No temperature. The urine analysis came back normal. Bloodwork was normal. It was late (1:30 a.m.) so I may have this detail wrong but the Vet said one level was slightly high (31 when it should be 27) and I think he said that it was a kidney level that could be due to high levels of protein from a RAW diet. He was very disapproving that we have been feeding raw. While we were at the Vet, Oscar still had to pee very 30 minutes.

We got home, he peed again and he really wanted to chug more water but I only let him have a drink for a while. Then everyone slept from around 2 til 6 a.m. I let them out and everyone pooed and peed normally. They ate breakfast and Oscar wanted a drink, but he did not seem to be gorging himself on the water.

I could not come home at lunch today, so the fur kids are at Day Care. I asked them to watch him and let me know if his "potty schedule" seems out of whack. They know him pretty well there. He did pee again in the grass outside PetSmart, but that's not too weird after the car ride and with all the dog smells there.

I am scared and frustrated at this point. Of course, I didn't want anything bad to turn up in the UA or the blood work, but a mystery is almost worse.

Other than high protein (?) -- his RAW and I had been giving him more bully sticks than usual -- is there any possible explanation?

Thank you for your help -- and please send a few healing vibes Oscar's way if you have a chance

Thanks for your response. Actually, it has been very cool - colder than usual/in the 30s overnight - here in DFW. Thanks for the idea though

Our girl has a peeing issue too! She just drinks and drinks and drinks when we let her (Payton). If Oscar drank so much and his pee was diluted, are you sure they got an acurate reading? I feed RAW and Payton still has peeing issues, she had it on kibble too, so I dont think that makes a difference. I want you to know I feel your pain, and understand your frustration. We are still not sure what is goingon with Payton, we just dont give her free access to water all the time and she is on pheopropanalimine (sp?) cause they think she has incontinence. You may try parsley and see if that helps? Hopefully you will get a better answer, but you are not alone!

Thanks for the support, Roxy's Mom

I am hoping (fingers crossed) that this was some weird occurrence that will sort itself out. I called the daycare at lunch time today and they said he was doing fine and they had not noticed any "potty issues" out of the ordinary. I swear I love these dogs so much that it drives me nuts when I don't know what is wrong or I'm not sure I'm providing the absolute best care for whatever ails them. Thank goodness for BW!

Update on Oscar

Well...it seems things have settled down and returned to normal. They did test for diabetes and found no glucose in his urine at the ER Vet. They mentioned that if things did not clear up he might need more extensive testing to rule out diabetes or diabetes insipidus (sp?), but as I said (knock on wood, fingers crossed) we seem to be back to a fairly normal pee routine.

Of course, now the little hellion was favoring his right rear leg again b/c he is playing too rough too soon (yet another ER trip last week!). But, we made him rest all afternoon and that, too, seems to be a bit better.

We may be being over-cautious, but we have switched the kids back to kibble and we are feeding Wellness super 5 mix chicken. I don't truly think the raw diet was the cause of this, but my both of us were scared by the experience and if they can do well on this premium kibble, I think it is the best choice for us for now. We are getting married in a month and were having trouble finding a kennel to accomodate feeding raw as well.

Thank you all for your good thoughts and suggestions. We're sending back good vibes out there to any boxer babies that are experiencing similar problems - let's all hope for happy endings!
