Shaunna,

If you do take Payton to Purdue, make sure you have copies of all of Payton's xrays, bloodwork, etc., so there need be no duplicates. You will need a referall to see a vet at Purdue; only residents of Tippicanoe County can go see a vet at the large or small animal clinic without a referral.

They do have all the experts and know their stuff. I hope Payton feels better soon. Could the "dirt" Payton was playing in have a bearing on a fungal meningitis? I know it has been very wet this spring in the Hoosier state.

Getting Pissed off.

Well my so called "reputable breeder" made me very mad last night. I called and asked her about the peeing problem Payton has first. She was having her dog Brandy checked and was running alot of tests on her. The breeder said that she called the family of the Sire and they said "All his puppies have this issue. We don't know the cause, but they are healthy". Healthy...YEAH RIGHT. Peeing on yourself is NOT healthy.

Also I asked her about all that is going on with Payton. She said that she hopes it is not menengitis, but please let her know. She will not help financially and does not have any suggestions. She even said "If you want to bring her back I will put her to sleep for you". UM NOOOO....I wanted help not a dead dog. When all this happened with the peeing the breeder said put her on RAW. When I asked about the red around the stool she said "It's becuase you are on RAW and her poop is hard and scraping her insides!" It happens on diareah and poop....I think not!

The vet called and left a message that he would refer me to Purdue. I am going over there after work to talk to him and see if I can get some steriods for her to try before going to Purdue. I belive in my heart and soul our girl has menegitis, DH does too.

KT thank you for all your help! I love that you are so infmorative, cause I am driving myself crazy looking for info on all this. Was the "slime" on tigger's poop red? Is he on RAW? I am wondering if the red slime is from her being on RAW then and not blood?! Her poop is definatly normal....
If you were closer I would totally come see ya and give you a big hug. If you think of anything else please let us know.

Sorry this got so long, thank you for your well wishes......I hope she gets better.

Don't blame you about being pissed off about this breeder. What a numbskull. However, I can not state this too firmly - you need to get Payton to a vet, a different vet than the one you've been seeing. And you need to tell the new vet EVERY problem Payton has had since you got her. Whatever is going on with Payton is not going to miraculously disappear and will likely get worse every day, resulting in bigger vet bills.

Isis has slime and blood on her poop (which was soft) and the vet diagnosed her with inflammatory bowel disease. She is on a special diet now called Medi-Cal which is only in Canada, as well as meds for it. Her stool is normal now. Just, FYI to give you as much info as possible.

Are all the vets that are so far involved aware of her raw diet?

Can you relate the timing of all Payton's serious problems with the start of her on the raw diet???
It is not dark. It is fresh. They are all aware of her RAW. The problems started long before her diet did. She has been peeing since we got her. We started RAW in Late February early March. Her first "leg" issue was on 3-21. Do you think it is the diet? We are taking her to the vet at Purdue as soon as we can get her in there.....

No. The blood just started after we had our vet visit. I am stopping by the vet on my way home from work.

Tigger's poo was mainly covered in slime and only occassionally a bit of blood in the slime not the actual poo - he did get a bad case of diaherra as well - which we thought was from the tablets - it was like turning on a tap - poor baby but settled down - we feed him canned food from the specialist vet to help his tummy it smelt like fish and we mixed it with a small amount of bullets. the vet did tell us that we had to watch for blood in his wee's or poo's as it could have been a side effect from the tablets, which by the way are called macrolone 20mg, the other side effect was a bit of food aggression we were warned and just feed them separately - the aggression came because he thought he was straving even through he wasn't and was always looking for food, the number of times i had to get up at 2 or 3 to give him a handful of bullets to tied him over to breakfast i cant recall.

We feed our two dry bullets (optimum i think it's called, it has all the vit's and minerals they need) mixed with cooked chicken breast or cooked lamb for a treat/change or steak (we have a wholesale meat place down the road that we buy our meat from in bulk and we get the dogs chicken from there as well, usually a bag for them and one for us - it's about 4kgs for $16 can't beat it) and they love it, for their breakfast they have a roll from supermarket which they love.

i'll check in tomorrow to see how payton and you guys are going, i don't usually have time on weekends but my heart knows what you are going through.

another thought - has the vet done an exam of her poo if not take a sample with you next time and get them to - they'll then see what you are talking about and be able to check - our vets did. When ever tigger is unwell his poo's seem to be covered in this slime thats when we really know he is not feeling to good

Update

Well this weekend went on without a hitch! She is acting like nothing at all ever happened. Her poop is normal agian, and we went for a car ride this weekend. She is playing and even jumping on the bed agian. I stopped the medication last weekend and she seems fine. I havnt heard a cry in I dont know how long!! She was playing with DH this weekend barking agian with her whole body (head up and tail out and whole body jumping with every bark!!! I love it). I dont get it. We are probably still going to take her to Purdue to see if they can find anything. I hope this doesnt come back. Maybe it was a reaction to something we put on our lawn? Heck I dont know.......I am just glad to have some more time with my pup.

I am glad to hear the weekend went well!! You, Mike and Payton were on my mind this weekend. I have been keeping you in my prayers. Ginny still sends her best wiggles to Payton!

I hope you follow up on the meningitis testing. I know she is feeling better, but I would still be a little concerned. If you can still go to Purdue, that would probably be best. I know it has and will be expensive, but it may save you precious time and money later--not to mention risking a relapse and Payton having to be in pain again. Catch it before it happens again--better safe than sorry, right?

I really pray that your troubles have come to an end--I am so sorry for what you have been through--this thread has been so heart-wrenching to read. I can only imagine how you are coping!
