Question Clipping Nails

I have always had regular vet visits...which have now slowed down that Sydney has had all her shots and been fixed and at home doing well. The vet has always clipped her nails...now I have also seen a couple pairs at Petsmart that look huge and scary !!

Is there any special way to tell or watch for when cutting my puppy's nails???

I have never done this myself yet but am going to have to start because when we play her nails are just getting too long and sharp and walking on the pavement helps a bit but not enough!

I hope someone has not posted on this...if so sorry, there is 250 pages of threads.

In the white nails you can see the pink part (which you don't cut), but it's tricky with the black nails coz you can't see, so be very careful & only snip the tip to be safe.

Personally I would go to the vet & have it done, coz I would be far too nervous. I would also ask the vet if he thought that they were too long.

They will also do it at petsmart or any grooming place. Max got a bath, ear cleaning, brushing and nail clipping for 9.99. Special for pups up to 5 mos. It was well worth it. They even used oatmeal shampoo when I asked for it. He looked so cute with his petsmart bandana.

I've never had to cut Nestle's nails because they get worn down from running in the back yard (there's a small patch of grass, a concrete patio, and a large section of grass). Running in the yard doesn't seem to do the trick for Hobart though so I have to cut his pretty regularly. I wait until he's sleeping and just do a couple at a time because that's all he holds still for I use a clipper that has a safety guard so you can only cut a certain amount of the nail. This has been a great feature for me because all of Hobie's nails are black except for one and I've never cut the quick once!
