bump on muzzle
Porter has developed a kind of hard bubble on his muzzle, back from his mouth, right where a little tuft of whiskers comes out. It is hard and kind of pink. I called the vet, as he had gone in the previous week for some scratches that got infected while playing with another puppy. He had to go on antibiotics and get washed with a special cleanser and have an ointment put on his "hot spots" twice a day. He did have a scratch in this same spot, but it did not show any siigns of infection. When I called the vet, she said to just watch it, that it could be a puppy pimple... a little weird. It is just a little bigger than the size of a pea. Anyone have this on one of their dogs before? It has been around for about a week and has not changed in size, color anything.

Boxers are prone to getting what are called button cell tumors (histiocytomas). They are hard and pink and resemble a button and generally disappear on their own. They are not harmful so most vets do not want to remove them... and since they eventually go away on their own. My boy Otis had one when he was about 11 months old. It was very ugly looking and on his muzzle. It took about a month or so to finally go away but it did. It sounds like this could be what your baby has.

bump on muzzle - papilloma
Hi - our boxer is 9 months old. She has what looks like a pink mole on her lips - and she's had it for about 3-4 weeks now. We took her to the vet after it had been there for about 2 weeks and he found one inside her lips as well, which we didn't notice. He said she most likely had "viral papilloma." Common in young dogs I guess, only contagious to other dogs. The bumps are supposedly benign and will go away on their own in a few weeks, sometimes months. Definitely keep her/him away from other dogs until these go away since they are contagious.

I just noticed a pink bump on Lily's lips tonight. It almost has the texture of a wart and is a little smaller than a eraser tip. Could this be similar to any of these other posts? We'll call the vet tomorrow to have it checked out.

oups! my selene has one on her black muzzle but it;s ...black!
it's hard and grew in just a few days. Looked like a moschito bite in the begginning
Last year my male had one on his lip which went away by giving him tablets of d-ribose which cost me a lot
I put bedadine on Selenes one which makes it rough on the surfase and then she scratches it off... Hmmm
I will call the vet right now!

oups! now I feel confused... the bump is gone just with Betadine!
Well, as I said, I called the vet and filled him up... told him I put Betadine on it.
He said ok and let him know what’s going on next week. The tumour/bump got really dry and oups! there it was, pink as my other dogs was last year... like a pea next to her nose this time. Well I continue putting Betadine on and it dried and pealed off especially during play time. Sometimes it was bleeding. Well it was getting smaller and smaller... Now it's gone, there is just a pink little surface circle which is quickly getting black and I'm sure in less than a week the tumour/bump will be history....
Now why did I have to pay 100 euro last year for that special d-ribose pill which I gave Cybe plus the daily use of Betadine ...
Ah!
Whatever
It’s great they're both fine...

Troy has had a few "puppy pimples" before around his lips but these seem to go away on their own after a month or so. He did develop a hystocytoma (sp*) on his rear/back that had me worried for awhile. We took him in to the vet and they ran a few tests and still were not 100% unless we had it removed and sent to the lab. We decided to wait for another 2 weeks to see if any changes happend. After a month the bump went away on its own. It was also in a spot that Troy would not bother or scratch at either. Anyway, if you want to be 100%, have it removed. If Troy ever develops a second I might be more into considering surgery.

I read some time ago here in boxerworld that they removed the tumour /hystiokytoma and it grew back in the same place...
Try betadine... in a few days you'll see if there's progress and it's harmless
And Cybes bump/tumour /hystiokytoma or whatever (that hard pea size pink bump on his lip that the vet did not name for sure) never grew back again

Re: bump on muzzle
You can also just buy a bottle of 10% povidone-iodine, which is the same stuff that's in Betadine. It's just usually cheaper than the brand name stuff. I just dip a cotton swab into the bottle and then swab the spot with the button cell tumor. Otis has had three of them. The last time he had one I put iodine on it twice per day and it went away a lot faster than his other ones did. Otis has also had two small mast cell tumors as well and they looked absolutely nothing like the button cells. The button cells he's had looked exactly like round, red buttons and were hairless. The mast cell tumors had a distinctly different appearance and changed size from day to day. Your vet can aspirate the bump and look at the cells under a scope to see if they look like they could be a mast cell. The only way to be truly certain though is to have it removed and biopsied.

I've heard that "dog warts" have been spreading a lot lately. It's called viral papilloma as someone else mentioned. I've been keeping a close eye on Rocky and trying to make sure his acne is just acne and not warts.

Lily's was one of those papilloma warts. That was back in Novemeber and it finally dissapeared in December, right before we got Ishie thank goodness. I'm thinking she must have got it at daycamp or something.
