Baxter's party was definantly a huge success! We had so much fun. There was 14 of us humans, the 7 furchildren (which includes the kitties who really didn't participate) and many of you who were there in spirit with us as well. Baxter wasn't the party animal he was at Goliath's party last year but he definantly enjoyed all the attention, not to mention the wonderful gifts that he received. This boy is definantly well loved and spoiled rotten--the pictures tell the true story!
All the kids enjoyed their homemade cake. Lexi felt like a queen in her lays, Dusty and Jaims didn't want any part of it, but Jack and Baxter were both very accepting of all the party gear! We were unable to get any great group photos unfortunantly but we did get some great individual shots. I promise to go through my photos tomorrow and email them to each of you who requested them. If anyone else is interested in seeing them, please contact me privately with your email so that I can share them with you too.
Thank you all so much for sharing this milestone with us. I will be sure to keep you updated on Baxter's progress. His next consult is in two weeks. Let's all pray for good news!
Aimee

I'm glad that Baxter had a wonderful time. Are you going to post the pictures in your gallery?

Aimee, I am just thrilled that Baxter had such a wonderful party. Sounds like the gang was all there and I can't wait to see the pictures. We sure were thinking about him on Saturday and we still continue to send our strongest Colorado vibes that bounce off the picture on our fridge. Tyson, Five and I send you all our biggest hugs.

Woo Hoo! Glad to hear everyone had a great time at Baxter's big birthday party. Baxter is probably exhausted from all that heavy partying.
Aimee, I've sent you a pm with my email to see the birthday boy and all his friends.

Aimee,
First of all glad to hear that your Baxter is doing so well and a belated Happy Birthday. I can't believe I haven't been involved in this discussion topic as my own boxer Riggo was diagnosed with cancer (Leukemia w/ hypercalcemia) in late August. I too was devestated as he is the first dog that I have had on my own and is like a son to me as I live alone. I have been posting my own story under " Say a prayer my boxer has Leukemia". He has been doing much better on conventional chemotherapy working with my own vet and probably the top oncologist on the East Coast Dr. Jeglum in West Chester.
From reading through this thread today I notice that you've been working with an oncologist, your personal vet and a holistic vet that you seem to be happy with. I have thought about supplementing his conventional chemo with a trip to a holistic vet myself. I have a couple of questions with this approach:
Do you find it confusing working with 2 different types of vets and do you ever think your circumventing one therapy with the other?
Also does your oncologist and/or regular vet feel like their getting their toes stepped on by the holistic vet?

In answer to your questions:
Thus far, I have not found working with multiple vets to be confusing. Actually, I find that I have much more control over Bax's quality of care this way. I choose who I want for what service based on their expertise and then encourage them all to communicate with each other (and if they don't then I talk with them about it). My "regular" vet has been the least involved in Baxter's care up to this point and I believe that she may feel a bit put off by this. However, when Baxter went to the neurologist, had the MRI and then saw the oncologist, all those reports were sent to her office. If you can believe this, I never heard a word from her (and she referred us to the neurologist). I had expected her to read the reports and then call me to schedule a time that I could come in and talk with her about the diagnosis, her thoughts, my thoughts and then plan a course of action for Baxter. Afterall, my "regular" vet is a holistic vet. I had expected that when she saw that conventional medicine had nothing to offer Baxter other than palliative prednisone, she would have taken the initiative to map out a holistic protocol. Do I worry about her feelings maybe being hurt, not one bit. My main concern is Baxter. Since she failed to be aggressive with his care, I had to be. I have all Baxter's labs run through her office and then I have them fax them out to the specialists for me. My vet is well aware that I am seeing other vets and I feel if she wants to get involved, then at this point she needs to approach me about it. With that said, Baxter is starting acupuncture on Friday with my regular vet, we'll see if she questions us during this visit Bottom line, don't worry about stepping on any toes. Your main concern is the best quality care for Riggo and no vet can fault you for trying to obtain that. I'm sorry to hear that Riggo also has cancer but it sounds like Riggo has also been doing well! I hope this helps and that I answered all your questions!
Okay, now I am off to work on those pictures--I promise

Debbie was kind enough to post them to a yahoo gallery. You can see them here!

Enjoy!
I may post a few of my favorites in my gallery, I just didn't want to eat up all the space with so many of them. Last time I uploaded pictures to my gallery, I ended up posting duplicates

I agree. "Pooped" was a classic. Looks like everyone had a good time and enjoyed the cake.
Today's the real birthday. Happy Birthday Baxter. And Jack.
